Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 9

There were the requisite pastries and warm morning caffienated beverages on hand today though rather than waiting by the desk with a grin on his face, Wilson was pacing with his cell phone in his ear.

When everybody was settled in for class, he asked whoever he was talking with to hold please, set the phone down and walked to the white board.

"All right guys. I've got a bit of an emergency today called hard close, auditors and teaching someone new my job so this is what we're going to do. A couple classes ago I showed you all a movie. Today I want you to pair up and one of you will be the protagonist and the other the nemesis. At the end of the class I want an essay from each of you describing the challenge thrown at you by your opponant and how you countered it."

He wrote this up on the board and then stepped back and walked back towards his phone.

"All right guys, go to it."

"So long as it's just for class, I guess," Beauty replied teasingly. "So what kind of challenge do you have for me, Mister Nemesis?"

He crossed his heart. "Cross my heart, sweetheart. Just for class." He grinned teasingly at her. "How wicked can I be?"

Beauty rolled her eyes, but was plainly amused rather than offended. Now that she'd gotten to know Johnny a little better, she thought he was mostly funny. Weird, but funny.

She couldn't, however, back down from that kind of challenge. "Do your worst," she replied, raising her chin and crossing her arms in front of her.

Hmm. A challenge. Johnny sat back and crossed his arms over his chest. Then, with a quirk of his brow, he said, "No. I will not go out with you. Doesn't matter how many times you keep asking. No means no."

Damn him. Beauty should have known it would be something like that. She put her face in her hand for a moment, laughing silently at herself.

This would be good for her though, right? Help her get over that shy streak?

"But you'll hurt my feelings if you don't," she said, going for the emotional approach first. "You don't want to make me cry, do you?"

"Darling, you know how many girls have cried over me?" he asked, tilting his head. "Too many to count. You'd just be another added to the list. Now like I said, no. I mean, if you want me to just make another notch on my bed post, that is one thing. But I'm not dating you."

"I'm not that kind of girl," Beauty protested. "If you want to get a notch on your bedpost for me, you have to woo me first. I'm not very picky, some flowers would be nice. And dinner."

She looked expectantly at Johnny, to see if the ploy of turning the whole thing around on him might get better results.

Rats. Okay, new tactic. Beauty had to suppress quite a bit of embarrassment over this one, but she thought maybe it would throw Johnny off a little, coming from her.

Batting her eyes in what she hoped was a decent impression of her sister (if her sister was a lot trampier), she leaned forward and rested her chin on her hand. "Then what would I have to do to convince you to date me, Johnny Storm?"

"Strip naked right here, right now, Beauty," he said quite matter-of-factly, not blinking an eye.

Damn him again! Beauty turned quite red, but mostly maintained her composure.

"You wouldn't want me to get detention and fail the class, would you? I don't believe you're that cruel, Johnny."

"Because...you really are absolutely a rogue, Johnny Storm!"

Beauty couldn't help it, even though part of her suspected that he was mostly having her on. She looked indignantly at him, and then in desperation grabbed for the only other ploy she could think of.

"If you don't date me, I'll tell Savannah that you've been mean to me. And I'll tell her that I saw you parading around the dorm in the nude."

He might have gave her a tiny, sly grin, but he totally keeping up with this assignment. He was not going to cave here.

"Go ahead tell her. She'll just look at you like you're crazy. Wanna know why?"

Beauty sighed, her shoulders slumping a little, as she made a hopeless face. "Why?"

"I'm sure she is, but there's proud, and then there's not minding when your 'guy' shows off his assets to any girl who goes by," Beauty remarked, sensing perhaps a weak spot. She leaned forward again, and dropped her voice. "But I won't tell her, in exchange for a date."

Who knew that blackmail would be easier than flirting? Beauty inwardly facepalmed.

"You have to remember, sweetheart," he said low, leaning towards her as well. "You saw me completely by surprise but yet you stuck around, didn't you? I saw your eyes go to my hips, even after I wrapped that towel around me. Don't deny it; you want me. That's why I am not dating you. Therein lies the challenge."

"You're wrong there, I don't actually want you at all," Beauty replied. "I was only staring because of your audacity, not because I saw anything especially interesting. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I really don't believe I want to date you at all."

She pondered for a moment, then shook her head. "No, really, I don't think you're that interesting."

Beauty forgot about the assignment for a moment, as she was trying to figure out what Johnny meant. "Brownies are little people like fairies, who take up in people's houses sometimes and do odd chores. What kind of scouts are you talking about?"
