Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 9

There were the requisite pastries and warm morning caffienated beverages on hand today though rather than waiting by the desk with a grin on his face, Wilson was pacing with his cell phone in his ear.

When everybody was settled in for class, he asked whoever he was talking with to hold please, set the phone down and walked to the white board.

"All right guys. I've got a bit of an emergency today ~~called hard close, auditors and teaching someone new my job~~ so this is what we're going to do. A couple classes ago I showed you all a movie. Today I want you to pair up and one of you will be the protagonist and the other the nemesis. At the end of the class I want an essay from each of you describing the challenge thrown at you by your opponant and how you countered it."

He wrote this up on the board and then stepped back and walked back towards his phone.

"All right guys, go to it."

"But...I don't know what a brownie is. How do I have one, and then suddenly understand you, if I'm by myself?"

Beauty totally had him. Hah!

"It's so not a date," he said finally, shoulders slouching.

"I won't go unless it's a date," Beauty said, pouting a little. She had a good sad-eyed pout, she'd learned it from A.J.

He shrugged. "Your loss. Brownies are great chocolatey goodness." Johnny gave her a big smile.

But...but the pout! Damn it, it always worked on her. Obviously, Johnny had a cold, cold heart.

And Beauty was totally going to fail this assignment.

She laid her head down on her arms on top of the desk. "Please go on a date with me so I don't fail!!" she wailed.

"But if I give in, doesn't that mean that I fail?"

Rats, that was good logic. "No, because the heroine is supposed to defeat the nemesis in the end?" Beauty answered hopefully, peeking up from behind her hair.

He clicked his tongue, shaking his head. "There you go again with the fairy tales."

"But the exercise is based on a fairy tale," Beauty pointed out. "I mean, it isn't as if I really want to go on a date with you."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm very sure," Beauty nodded. "No offense to you, Johnny, but you aren't my type."

"Pfft..." yeah, okay, whatever.

"You're not!" Beauty exclaimed. "You can't think that everyone wants to date you!"

Really, he couldn't. Right?

"I know that, maaaan, what do you think I am? Besides, I do listen to the radio and know that you have been spending time with that guy."

"Well, you are little bit confident about yourself," Beauty replied, looking sheepish.

And then she blushed, and stammered a little. "Um, you mean A.J.?"

Because yeah, what other guy would the radio be talking about?

"...and that is a problem?" Seriously, Johnny didn't see it as a problem.

And the blushing gave it all away. "Yeah, I mean him. Better watch yourself with him though."

"No, just...an observation." Beauty had a suspicion that Johnny could be a real charmer when he put his mind to it. It was probably lucky she'd encountered him the way she had that first time.

Then she looked indignant. "What do you mean? A.J.'s absolutely nice, there isn't anything I would need to watch out for."

Oh yes, he most definitely could.

"No, right, of course not," he said, not at all willing to talk about him. At least not now, here in class. A.J. was pretty cool he supposed.

He'd better not say anything bad about A.J., because Beauty would totally hit him for it. In class and everything.

"All right," she said, eyeing Johnny. "Maybe you just don't know him well enough, that's all."

Yeah, he figured with the look on her face she just might.

"Must not. I totally reserve any judgement I might have had in the past regarding A.J."

"If you're talking about the thing with Annette, I think that was predicated on misunderstandings and...really shouldn't be our business," Beauty said, with a nod. "Anyway, think about it -- with the way gossip goes around here? The radio could report tonight that you and I talked about going on a date, and then everyone would think that we were, and all because gossip."

"Gossip can be a two-edged sword, can't it?" But Dick told Johnny the way it went down and he knew... But it was done and overwith, sometime ago actually, so seriously, he wasn't thinking about it anymore. Really. Nope.

"I can't think of much use, honestly, that can come of it," Beauty mused, looking serious. "And mostly it seems to hurt people. I'm not saying all people are good and none of what's said is ever true. Just that it doesn't usually seem to cause anything but trouble."

"I agree," he said, looking just as serious. "Does this mean we both win here?"

Beauty gave him a big smile. "I think it does. It's been nice having you as my nemesis, Johnny," she said, holding out her hand.
