Sam was finishing his breakfast - if a muffin from J,GOB could be called breakfast - on the way to the library, and trying not to drop the whole separate bag of books he needed to return.

It might have been becoming a habit to drop by the library with enough food for both him and Sammy, but hey, he'd been feeding most of his life and he had to eat his lunch somewhere. Might as well be with someone he liked.

"Hey, so you too full of applesauce or do you want some grown up food?" Dean asked, holding up the bag of sandwiches.

Sam laughed and made room for Dean. "I could use some grown up food. The applesauce isn't that bad though," he admitted.

"Guess some things don't change," Dean teased, sitting down and handing over a sandwich. "Though at least now you don't get as much on your shirt as in your mouth."

"Yes, because I'm not a baby anymore, and I have fully functional motor skills now," Sam replied.

"And you seem to have outgrown the need to put it in your hair."

"I'm old enough to have outgrown putting anything in my hair," Sam pointed out.

"Including scissors," Dean said without missing a beat. "And don't think I've forgotten about giving you a haircut."

Sam laughed. "I haven't forgotten. I'm waiting anxiously for the day to arrive."

"Maybe later this week. Or this weekend. Saturday maybe? So you can tell all and sundry on the radio what a good job I did."

"Or I can gain sympathy for being disfigured," Sam teased.

"I have never given you a haircut you didn't like so you can stop acting like I'm going to go all Bad Dream on Oak Drive on you."

"I know, I'm just teasing. I'm sure it'll be fine," he said.

"Damn straight." Dean unwrapped his own sandwich and took a bite of it. "So, what are you going to do for the assignment in Relgions?"

"I figure I'll try being Pagan," Sam said. "It's different enough that it should be interesting, but not too out there. What about you?"

Dean gave a casual half shrug. "Thought I might try this Catholicism thing on."

Sam broke out into a full, broad grin. "Really?"

Another shrug. "Thought I might."

"Do you want any help? Or do you have any questions?"

"Well, I don't think I'm going to be a very good Catholic," Dean admitted. "Because I'm not giving up sex."

Sam snickered. "I don't think the rules for the assignment are that strict," he said. "But you're going to have to set foot in the church."

"It's not like I've never been in a church," Dean pointed out.

"Yeah, but usually when we go into a church, we're investigating something. When's the last time you went into a church and prayed?"

Dean gave a half shrug. "I haven't prayed since Mom died."

It was only through sheer force of will that Sam didn't let on how upset it made him to hear that.

"Well, then you might be a little out of practice."

Dean gave another shrug. "Never seemed worth it," he said. "What's good praying if you never get an answer?"
