When Sam got to class, he was surprised to find the room empty. He was even more surprised when pretty much everyone else filed in, except for Vala. When the bell rang, and there was still no sign of her, Sam facepalmed and went up to the front of the room.

"Uh, hey everyone. Our teacher seems to be MIA this morning, but luckily, I have an idea of what we were supposed to talk about today. Today's topic was supposed to be Paganism, since there's a big pagan holiday this Wednesday - Samhain, although most people call it Halloween. Specifically, we were going to talk about the Salem Witch Trials, 'cause there's a lot of misconceptions about what happened back then, and it's important to set the record straight."

Sam went on ~~and on~~ and talked about the trials, and about what was most likely true versus what had been made up and overblown over the centuries. When he was done, there was still time left in class, and after some near-flailing, Sam made everyone promise not to leave and fled back to the library, returning with a DVD.

"This movie has to do with the witch trials, sort of," he said as he got the movie started. "I'll be hiding in the back now, if anyone needs me."

See Sam. See Sam babble. Babble Sam, babble.

She was very inmpressed with San's babble skills.

Not so impressed with witch burning topics, though.

Eve was sitting next to Gwynn, also impressed with Sam's babbling.

She was also trying to suppress a growl. Talking about burning? To a witch? Yeah, not good.

"I don't like this topic," Gwynn murmured with troubled eyes.

"Me, either," Eve said softly.

"It's evil what some people do to each other."

"That's putting it mildly," Eve agreed. "I can understand being afraid of witches, hell, I can even understand arresting them and trying them, even though I don't agree. But the killing and burning? Makes me want to turn it right around on them."

Gwynn nodded. "Most of the people they burn are not witches... just people who do their own thing. Nottingham was going to burn me as a witch, but as you can see, I am still alive."

"Which I'm definitely glad for." Eve grinned. "It'd suck to not have my best friend around."

Gwynn grinned back at her. "It's kind of how Conner and I got together... so in a way, he's the reason your best friend is around."

Phoebe's classes this summer had covered most of this, so Lana didn't take as many notes as she might have otherwise. Which reminded her... she'd really better call Phoebe at some point before someone else told her about Chris.

Dean had learned what Sammy was talking about from the same places he was, so he wasn't learning anything new.

Watching his brother flail and babble though was always good entertainment.

Luke raised his hand. "What does this have to do with begging people for candy?" he asked, looking confused.

Sam bit his lip to keep from snickering. "Well, trick or treating is part of the modern interpretation of the holiday. Kind of like how we have Santa Claus with Christmas."

"We're supposed to ask him for candy, too?"

"Presents, actually. Although, I guess candy can count as a present."

"And you just get them? Random presents from a stranger? Really?"

Luke had missed Christmas last year.

"Uh, well..." Sam thought he'd be a lot older before he had to tell someone that Santa Claus wasn't real. "That's what parents tell their kids. That the presents come from Santa. It's kind of a way to make kids behave for a few weeks, because Santa only brings presents to kids who are good."

"So you bribe them with fictional characters," Luke said, nodding. "Interesting."

If you didn't sneak out while Sam was gone, of course.

Lana sat back and half-watched the movie and half-thought about the phone call she was going to have to make soon.

He might be flustered, but he's still willing to chat if anyone wants to.

Sorry for the lame class. I'll be home around 5pm Eastern to pick up any necessary pings.
