Sam had the biggest cup of coffee that the Perk would sell as he came to open the library. As much fun as his road trip with Dean had been, it had left him more wiped than he'd expected.

"Yep. We had to dig up the ghost's bones, and salt and burn them. We would have done it faster if we hadn't had a squirrel interruption."

"Which is ironic," Peter pointed out. "You'd think they'd be good at digging. Though not six feet down. Do you have to do that often?"

"Yeah, it's pretty standard procedure for dealing with most ghosts and spirits," Sam replied. "Dean and I have gotten very, very good at it."

"It's not exactly a glamorous job, huh?" Peter said. There was no judgement in his words, just observation.

"Definitely not," Sam replied. "But people don't usually become hunters for the glamour."

"Why do most people become hunters?" Peter asked. "Is it like you and Dean? Personal?"

"Different kinds of personal, yeah. At least, that's how it is with the people we know," Sam said. "Some of them lost someone close to them, and some of them just saw something they couldn't explain, and instead of ignoring it, they investigated and found out the truth."

"That's gotta take a special kind of courage," Peter said. He meant it for all of them, Sam and Dean included.

"Yeah, Dean and I know some really courageous people," he said. "For all that I complain about my dad, I think it took a lot for him to accept what he found out about how my mom died."

"And to do something about it," Peter said. "Considering everything he had to lose."

"That's why he started training me and Dean, so he doesn't have to worry about losing us too," Sam said.

"I'm all for that," Peter said. He grinned. "Even if Nathan might not agree about Dean."

Sam laughed. "I'm sure I can get Dean to change his mind about Nathan and not be so angry at him."

"Didn't realize in addition to visions you could also create amnesia," Peter teased.

"Not amnesia," Sam said with a laugh. "But I can try to get him to be a little more sensical, especially if he realizes him and Nathan are just out for the same thing, to keep us safe."

"And that they don't always have to be stubborn," Peter agreed.
