Library [Sunday, October 28]

Lee settled himself behind the desk with a notebook, a few books that he wasn't going to read and a bottle of water. He started writing a letter to his brother, stopped a few times to just wander around the library, eventually wandering back and attempting to finish the letter.

Her smile in response, the small breath of something of a laugh had a nervous edge to it, which also gave it another edge of irritation, at herself, for that response. It didn't make sense; it was the response of someone who was guilty, ashamed, both things that she refused to be and should not be; lightly, she shook her head, and then trailed her hand softly down his arm, toward her pen. The desire to keep the position make writing out a response a little awkward, but she managed.

"It's just been a strange weekend that left me displaced in several ways; my mind and my body seem to have failed to reach an agreement on how to settle into them, but that is nothing out of the ordinary."

"And therein lies the problem," Adah said lightly with a small, unfortunate sort of smile. She let go of the pen in favor of his hand again, moving fingers to link together. "Of course I don't want you to stop, but there's this thing in my stomach telling me you should. Ever the disagreement; half goes one way, half goes the other."

It would have been impossible for her smile not to ease at hearing something like that. "For all we know," she commented as she closed her eyes, tightened her own hand in his, "the whole stomach thing is just something bad I had for lunch yesterday, anyway."

"Or," Adah offered with a light grin, her eyelids fluttering in the desire to look and see where the Eel was drawing their hands, but keeping them closed for want of the surprise and a more satisfying confirmation of her suspicions, "count them all until I've finished, then count them again, to see if any of them have burnt out in the time it takes me to count them."

The expectation of such a kiss helped make it seem more than it was, and she grinned at the soft feeling. "I wasn't finished," Adah drawled objectively. "After I'd counted them and if I'd find one burnt out, I would then have to calculate, based on how long it took me to count the second time, how long ago the star burnt out and, then, use that as a measure for how far away from us it was."

"That's probably why I'm better," Adah teased back, simply with a sharpened grin, lightly brushing against his cheek with her thumb.

"Exactly my point," Adah said, slowly drawing her eyes open as if feeling some sort of shift in the balance as the Eel closed his, and she smiled softly as she carefully observed his expression as she continued making soft circles against his cheek. Not exactly quite as exciting as being able to displace the feeling by mere though, but just as nice, if not more. And, even better, she wouldn't have to worry so much about him seeing it coming as her thumb paused and she leaned carefully forward across the desk to give him the lightest brushing of a kiss.

So much for guilt; must have been yesterday's lunch after all.

Adah wasn't likely to play with unexpected pressure like the Eel did; she couldn't afford to, really, depending on consistency to keep her collected, but she hoped that perhaps the feeling of her grinning into the kiss in response to his returning it would at least count for something before, another circle again his cheek with her thumb, little finger lightly tracing a small spot of his strong jawline, Adah drew lightly away. "So," she said, softly, thinking idly that, by now, no one had probably ever heard her talk as much as he had, and no one probably ever will, "stars? When?" It would be nice meet under terms that didn't involve the library or climbing the stairs to his room, so she wanted to confirm its occurrence.

"I like Thursday," Adah responded, drawing into her shoulder a little, happily. Thursday would give her just enough time to really feel the anticipation of waiting for it and her mun doesn't even have to work.

"Beach," Adah decided with a small nod, one she made without drawing her eyes from his, and she kept her thumb moving with her words, "Can feel the sand in between your toes if it isn't too cold, and the water will reflect the stars." She paused, to sharpen her smile. "More to count."

"Well," Adah said, drawing her hand away finally, drawing back and marveling at how just a few inches away seemed to create a much larger gap; she didn't even need to lean so heavily on the desk. Perhaps that was it. "I'll maybe let you concentrate on looking forward to it and I'll go find those books I came here for?"
