Today the class was meeting in the Danger Room.

It was not surprising that there wasn't a scrap of red velvet to be seen anywhere. It always wasn't a coincidence that today's class could get most of the students fake killed in nasty ways.

"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship. Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi."

His eyes went flat. "Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith..." he glanced at Qui-Gon, "whose name doesn't matter."

And whose face would be mysteriously blurry when Qui-Gon fought against him. Anakin wasn't about to screw up timelines for a class assignment.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to fight past the droids, Grievous and the Sith Lord, get back on a different ship and the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts. They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, then listed off the pairings:

River Tam - Irulan Corrino
Gavin Darklighter - Prue Halliwell
Edward Elric - Aravis Tarkheena
John Sheppard - Victor Von Doom
Gwynn Hood - Henry Jekyll
Qui-Gon Jinn - Jaina Solo
Rodney McKay - Sokka
Sora - Haruhi
Kabuto - Ino

Volcano - Damien Rice

The simulation roars back into life as you find yourself in midleap above a starfighter that has clearly seen better days.

And here come the battle droids. They're pretty stupid, but they make up for it by bringing a lot of them along.

And they're all aiming their weapons at you. This could be bad.

"Oh wow." Prue said. "Those things are creepy."

"And there's a lot of them," Gavin said, shaking his head. "Swarms of them. Well, not here but back home."

"Never thought I'd be so glad to be from Earth." Prue said. She took out her lightsaber. "So they'll pretty much go down after you slice them in half, right?"

"They'll go down," Gavin confirmed. "And won't get back up. Just watch their blaster fire."

"Got it." she said, looking determined. She wasn't about to be killed by little robots.

With a clatter of metal on metal and a few chirped "Roger, roger"s, the battle droids opened fire.

A few of them moved closer, well into lightsaber slicing range. Assuming they weren't hit by blaster fire, of course.

Gavin already preferred the blaster but he wasn't a Jedi and maybe these things could do some good.

Avoiding the first flurry of blaster fire, he swung wildly in the direction of the droids, certain to make some kind of contact.

He had. Droid parts went flying and one of the blaster bolts ricocheted off of Gavin's lightsaber and shot back towards the droids.

They decided the way to fix this new problem was to shoot as his partner.

"Look out," Gavin yelled, trying to warn Prue while keeping his own glowing sword in front of him. Stupid glowing sword. Luke was so hearing about this.

Prue gasped and attempted to swing her lightsaber in the direction of the droids. She wasn't a fan of the whole sword thing either.

Cloak on and the hood pulled up, Victor turned on his lightsaber -- green, of course -- and... let John attack the droids first. Victor wanted to see the capabilities of the droids first.

John left off the hood and engaged his lightsaber. "Seriously, pink?" he asked no one in particular.

Skywalker gave him this rumor-mongering idiot as a partner and gave John a pink lightsaber. "This has to be some kind of punishment," he said to himself

"Let's attack," Victor said, charging forward since Sheppard was too astounded by the shiny sword.

John was distracted by the pink lightsaber, yes, but still managed to follow Victor's order to attack.

The droids--and there were a lot of them--fired on the two boys. They seemed to be focused a bit more on John.

Anakin, naturally, had no idea how that could happen.

John tried to avoid being hit, using the lightsaber the best he could. "There are an awful lot of droids...is it me or are they ignoring you?" Seriously, that was weird.

"Not all of them," Victor said, managing to flank the droids due to the decreased pressure on him. Victor wasn't an expert swordsman by any means, but when you got in close enough with fragile enemies and a powerful weapon, that didn't matter. He started swinging his saber at the droids attacking John.

The droids fell into neat little piles of parts as he did so. A gap opened that led towards the elevator.

The rest of the droids were still shooting, naturally.

John attempted to fend off the droids still shooting with his pink (and slightly malfunctioning) lightsaber, while he shouted at Victor. "Going up?"

Victor sliced off a droid's head and dragged the body along as a shield as he hurried to the elevator. "You know I'm going up. Why do you feel the need to ask such an insipid question?"

Rodney hefted his lightsaber up into something vaguely resembling a fighting pose and ignited it. He gulped at the approaching battle droids.

Sokka let out a ululating battle cry and charged the droids, swinging his lightsaber at them.

Only partly because that's what he would have done anyway. Some part of his mind honestly thought he was drawing their fire away from Meredith deliberately.

Rodney stayed to the back and tried to duck any blaster shots that came his way.

And there were a lot to duck. Some of the bolts ricocheted into the droids, causing them to walk into each other, fall down, ram into walls, et cetera.

You'd think the Seperatists would've spent a little more money on these things.
