Today the class was meeting in the Danger Room.

It was not surprising that there wasn't a scrap of red velvet to be seen anywhere. It always wasn't a coincidence that today's class could get most of the students fake killed in nasty ways.

"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship. Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi."

His eyes went flat. "Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith..." he glanced at Qui-Gon, "whose name doesn't matter."

And whose face would be mysteriously blurry when Qui-Gon fought against him. Anakin wasn't about to screw up timelines for a class assignment.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to fight past the droids, Grievous and the Sith Lord, get back on a different ship and the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts. They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, then listed off the pairings:

River Tam - Irulan Corrino
Gavin Darklighter - Prue Halliwell
Edward Elric - Aravis Tarkheena
John Sheppard - Victor Von Doom
Gwynn Hood - Henry Jekyll
Qui-Gon Jinn - Jaina Solo
Rodney McKay - Sokka
Sora - Haruhi
Kabuto - Ino

Volcano - Damien Rice

Gwynn waited around for Henry.

Prue waited for Gavin.

Gavin walked over and smiled. "Hey. I think we're partners for this thing."

"Looks like it." she looked down at her outfit. "I wish we could rescue people in better clothes."

"Yeah, very stylish," Gavin said, picking at the robes. "At least they're not itchy?"

"True. I suppose I could overlook the fact the clothes are ugly because of the lightsaber." Prue said. To say she hadn't want to use one ever since she saw them would be a lie.

She had the lightsaber and she had the telekinesis. If Prue could get the whining down she could totally be a Jedi.

John looked around for Victor.

"How familiar are you with battle?" Victor asked John.

Because questioning a person's abilities was like saying 'hello' for Victor.

"Depends on the type of battle," John replied. "But I'm confident I can handle whatever Professor Skywalker can throw at us." Possibly literally.

"Good. Because if you can't, I'm not waiting for you," Victor said.

Ino waited for Kabuto.

Sokka stared at his lightsaber with wide eyes, making happy sort of burbly noises. This was EVEN BETTER THAN A MACHINE GUN!!!

While he was waiting for his ~~roomie~~ partner, he found a clear spot, ignited it, and waved it around, trying to mimic some of the moves he had seen Luke and Jaina do. And then just sort of waved it around, enjoying the hum.

And then carved his name into the floor, just because.

Rodney was torn between excitement at getting to play with the cool lightsaber and dread at the exercise itself. Fighting? So not his strong suit.

He found his partner and saw 'Sokka' carved into the floor. "I'm gonna die," he muttered.

"DONT!" Sokka instructed him. "We have to go rescue some guy. How are your swordfighting skills?"

"Hmm, let me think," Rodney pretended to consider the question. "I'd say nonexistent. How about you? Any previously unknown fencing ability?"

This was just like home. Jaina decided they could handle this just fine.

Qui-Gon smiled at Jaina. "This seems very familiar. I almost feel like I'm back at the temple."

"We're both probably only a few months off missions," she agreed. "This should be a breeze."

No, seriously, she totally thought that.

"I don't know if I'll go quite that far. Master Anakin after all knows our skills." He smiled again. "But I expect we can handle anything thrown at us."

Ed looked around for Aravis.

Who he THOUGHT was the girl that made sure to stop to mock last week. Just his luck.

"Short boy!" Aravis greeted him.

"I AM NOT SO SHORT YOU COULD FLUSH ME DOWN THE DRAIN LIKE A TINY, TINY SHRIMP IN THE OCEAN," he flailed immediately at Aravis.

"Aww, you are smaller than me," Aravis said, smiling.
