Limping into the library, Adah was glad to see that whoever it was working in the library today (she didn't know, although she knew she should know, but if it wasn't a Sunday or a Wednesday, what did it matter?) was probably up and about doing something instead of manning the desk, so she didn't have to worry about expressing somehow that she didn't need help. She knew what she wanted, where to find it, after all, and just hoped it wasn't on the top shelf.
Anemone heard someone enter the library, but decided to finish lecturing the offending books before going in search of her patron.
"Burton? Is that you? I already told you that we don't carry Playboy." It's a reasonable assumption, since Jack's usually the only one who visits the library when she works.
Adah's eyes shifted a little toward the sound of the library aid working today, disgruntled slightly in being interrupted in trying to make her decision on which book appealed to her most. Never judge a book by its cover, they say (Cover its by, book a judge? Never!), but when there were so many to choose from....she was also considering author names, because that could be an interesting rule of thumb to work with. Either way, she didn't say anything to the library aid's call. She felt that the person she was looking for would have responded, so the lack of response, maybe, would tell her that these aren't the droids patrons she was looking for.
Figuring that the silence meant whomever it was didn't need immediate assistance, Anemone finished her lecture and scooped up the last of the offending literature tomes, planning on carrying them back to their proper location.
She peered down each aisle as she walked, keeping an eye out for any stray books or ostriches, and stopped when she saw the other girl. "Hi. Sorry I yelled, thought you were someone else."
Adah had just finished deciding that she didn't like the backwards version of an author's name enough to choose his book when the library aid stopped and spotted her in the aisle. She leaned in as she pushed the book back in place with two fingers on her left hand, trailing their tips along the marked letters on the spine, and then drew back, not straightening, but getting as close as she could, and tucked the hair behind her ear as she turned her head to glance toward the other girl's direction. There was a slight pause, a wince almost, at the brightness of her hair, but it was followed by a shrug to suggest that she didn't mind.
Quiet, wasn't she? Unsure how to react, Anemone shrugged in response, smiling crookedly at the other girl. "Anything in particular you want, or just browsing?"
Adah tilted her head a little with her eyes resting lazily on the other girl, and she tapped her fingers on the row of Taoism books in front of her. Already found what she was looking for, just had to narrow it down...
"Oh." Anemone studied the shelf thoughtfully before tapping a few titles thoughtfully. "I liked (http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Golden-Flower-Thomas-Cleary/dp/0062501933/ref=cm_lmf_tit_3/002-6783428-6905623") these (http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Taoist-Immortals-Eva-Wong/dp/1570628092/ref=sr_1_1/002-6783428-6905623?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193165848&sr=1-1") ones (http://www.amazon.com/Tao-Ching-25th-Anniversary-Lao-Tsu/dp/0679776192/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6783428-6905623?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193164804&sr=8-1") here (http://www.amazon.com/Tao-Pooh-Wisdom/dp/1405204265/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10/002-6783428-6905623?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193164804&sr=8-10"). "
[getting no notices, thwap me if I don't respond promptly. :)]
Adah's eyes, expression slightly hardened, stayed sharply on the other girl instead of paying any attention to the books she'd pointed out. Adah didn't remember asking for help, so she wasn't exactly keen on receiving it.
Anemone wasn't unaware of the other girl's scrutiny, and stiffened slightly. Fine. She was just trying to be nice. Dominic's needling about her lack of friends had hurt more than she let on.
"Have fun, then." she said coolly, re-adjusting her armload of books. "You know where to find me, hai?" She didn't want for a response before returning Adah's 'Look'. "Jaa." Stupid humans.
For once, there is not a Gulliver trying to steal from her bento. Which is just fine with Anemone. Honestly.
So she's picking listlessly at her food alone. The library is closed for lunch, unless you happen to be an aide or the librarian. Or someone bringing her tasty treats.
With all the books back where they belong, Anemone's meandering around the library, straightening chairs and picking up stray papers before she closes up for the day.
