NNSE, Monday, Period 1 [Oct 22]

Lulu was setting up a television screen at the front of the class as the students came in. "Hello, everyone," she said, as they took their seats. "We're deviating slightly from the syllabus again today; we're going to be watching a movie about relationships. It's called The Reverse of Gratification."

[OOC: Sorry for the lame class, I had today's class all typed up but forgot to save it. Boom, computer lock-up, and no time to rewrite it. We'll get back to talking about sex next week. ~~Please wait for~~ OCD is up!]

Rikku giggled. "I suckerpunched you a few times. Not the same thing. Kinda can't fight right now anyway."

She shook her head, making a face. "Don't ... don't mind me. It's just kinda been a bad month."

Sokka nodded. "Robot raccoons trying to kill you, too? Did you meet Jude's overprotective big brother?"

"Vampire," she said. "Really strong one. Tried to pull my Godhand off, and then beat me in the head with it."

In a softer voice, she added, "Jude's gone."

"Vampires you need to kill with... Salt? Or silver. Maybe holy water."

Oooh, Professor Winchester would be so disappointed in him.

"So... When's Jude getting back?" he asked. "Your month's gonna suck until he does, huh?"

"You can stake them. But not if they've just snapped your arm and shoved a spike into your head." She stared at the desk. "He's ... he's not."

Sokka blinked. "No, seriously. When's he getting back?"

"His mom's sick," she said, not looking up. "She ... and so he has to ... and his dad, with the hospital, and ..."

"Wow," Sokka breathed. "That's..."

He patted her shoulder awkwardly. "I'm sorry."

Rikku shuddered, closing her eyes. "It's okay," she lied. "I m-mean. My mom. She's gone, you know? I get it. It's not ... he has to, it's not like it's us. And. And maybe someday we'll ... you know." Deep breath. "I'm fine."

"Yeeeeeeah," Sokka said. "Sure you are. I can't believe how fine you are."

He shrugged sadly. "My mom's gone, too."

"Okay," she said. "Fine. I feel like my heart's being all smashed up into bits and I keep waiting for him to walk through the door and it's hard to fall asleep by myself and I just wanna wake up and go 'wow, that was a horrible nightmare' and have him go 'it's okay, bra' and kiss me until I forget that any of this happened. And then somebody beat the crap out of me and oh, yeah, Hamlet's a ghost now and I don't know how to help him or if I'll be able to see him again and I really thought Bayla was gonna be ours, his and mine, and this is all wrong and I don't know how to fix it any more. I just said I was fine 'cause I'm sick of crying and it doesn't change anything and I figured you didn't want to hear all of that anyway."

After a few moments, she added, "I'm sorry about your mom."

Sokka blinked at her. And blinked again.

And patted her shoulder awkwardly again. And blinked.

And then, because "Wow, sucks to be you" was SO not the right response, he eventually came up with "...Do you want to go beat something up? Or get some ice cream?"

"That might be nice," she said. "The ice cream. Not the beating something up." She lifted the sling again.
