It was early but Harriet was looking bright and alert as she watched the students arrive. She had a cup of tea and a smile that might be just a little unnerving as she waited outside the Dangershop.

"Good morning, students. Your task is to rid the countryside of a marauding beast. I'm sure you'll all do a wonderful job. And Mr. Madrox? Just one of you today, thank you."

Lee was dragging the the head of the Jabberwocky when he came out of the woods.

The old man looked up and grinned. "You did it! You killed the Jabberwocky! That deserves a hug!" He held out his arms in the traditional 'let's hug' gesture.

"Okay," he said, laughing and dropped the head to go over and hug the old man.

The old man hugged him enthusiastically. "Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" he chortled in his joy. "Good job, lad. You've freed us from the tyranny of the beastie."

"Glad to help," Lee said and shrugged. "Thanks for your advice. It worked."

"Didn't want you to get eaten by the beastie, now, did I?" With a hearty clap on the back, the old man nodded at the head. "Just leave that here with me, and take our gratitude with you when you go forth from this place."

"Happy to," Lee said, not looking at the head again before waving at the old man and heading away from the forest and out of detention.

The tail of the Jabberwocky stunk and Annette was holding it as far away from her as possible when she came out of the woods.

The old man looked at it - and her - dubiously. "Did you slay the Jabberwocky?"

"I... it fell and made an awful crunching noise. So, I think so?"

"Close enough, lass." He beamed at her. "That deserves a hug," he declared as he held out his arms.

Annette smiled back and went in for a hug, dropping the sword and the tail to the ground. "Thank you!"

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" he chortled in his joy. "You did a good job, lass," he added as he stepped back. "You'll carry our gratitude with you when you go forth from this place."

She beamed. "Thank you and I'm very glad I was able to help." She should probably go before anyone realized that that Jabberwocky might still be alive. "I've got to go now! Have a wonderful day!" She waved and headed away, ready to be done with detention for the day.

Jamie was galumphing along like a good Jabberwocky hunter should, dragging the Jabber's head along with him.

"I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!"

The old man just groaned and put his head in his hand. "You killed the jabberwocky, good job, I think we can skip the hug."

"So where's my money?" Jamie asked. "I get paid for this, right?"

"You don't get paid, boyo." The old man shook a finger at him. "You leave the head here and bugger off back to wherever you came from, quick smart. And put some trousers on!"

"Don't oppress my right to be nekkid!" Jamie said wagging a finger back at the old man.

"I'll oppress something else in a minute," he warned, tugging at his hair in frustration. He'd almost prefer the jabberwocky. "Git!"

"Oh sure. Kill the big monster and that's the thanks I get?" Jamie grumped as he stomped off. "Fine! Be that way!"

After a few minutes, there was a general stir in the forest as an assortment of odd creatures peered out at the old man, with the horse looming over them all. "It's all right, the naked lad left." There was a mutual sigh of relief. "I think the jabberwocky was the lucky one."
