Aly might have moved her desk to the corner of the room with the best sight lines.

No reason.

There were donuts but the coffee was long gone. Possibly because Aly drank it all.

"What with her six-inch high body and inability to speak?" Aly asked teasingly. "What did she convince you to do that was so horrible?"

"I. Do not. Need shoes," Kerrigan informed Aly, "Apparently, saying these words does not constitute speaking English to that--"

What followed were a few words that were not particularly nice.

Aly covered her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. "You can have shoes that look nice and also can hold weapons," she pointed out.

"That's irrelevant," Kerrigan grumped, "I don't need them."

"Fair enough," she said, letting it go for a moment.

"Thank you," she said. Then demonstratively pulled another donut out of the box.

She snorted and grabbed another donut as well. "Now I'm wishing you were around to chaperone at their party the other night."

Kerrigan chewed some more. "Did anything blow up?"

"Surprisingly? No. Nor did the students all turn into chipmunks. I was impressed."

"Doesn't sound like I missed anything." Donuts were just too finite.

"No, I wish you were there for my own amusement," Aly told her.

Kerrigan snorted. "At least you're honest."

Aly laughed. "Any reason in particular I shouldn't be?"

And that was a shrug. "Sport."

"Mmm, the sport would have been the other night, and it's rather stupid to lie to someone who can sense it," she replied.

"It is," Kerrigan said, leaning back on the desk some more, "Isn't it?"

"I'm sure you find it to be so," she said, taking an unperturbed sip of coffee.

"I thought you were the expert," Kerrigan replied. Mildly.

"At lying?" Aly asked easily. "It goes with the job."

She raised an eyebrow. "Of teaching?"

"That too," Aly chuckled.

Kerrigan shot her a look full of amusement. "Obviously I've been doing it wrong," she commented, dryly.

"Well, you're new," Aly teased.
