Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 6 Danger Room!

Sometime over the hectic weekend the students had been handwavey instructed to come to the Danger Room on Monday. Set up in a sort of 'waiting room' there was a spread of classic English tea sandwiches laid out today along with the usual coffee, tea and water.

Wilson was looking a bit amused as he sat in an overstuffed chair and sipped on his coffee.

As soon as everyone had gathered into the Danger Room, Wilson stood up and walked towards an unassuming little door.

"Good morning."

"I hope everybody had a wonderful Homecoming, it seemed to be a lovely weekend and I know I had a good time saying hello to some old friends."

Crossing his arms and his ankles, he grinned at the class.

"Well, today we have a guest speaker, sort of. Actually he's going to be a guest Adversary for you all. Today's lesson is about how you handle a situation when you know you're going to lose the battle but you need to win the war. Only not with a real war or battle mind you, because that would be mean."

Reaching over for his coffee, he took a sip and then set it back down.

"One by one, you'll go through that door, sit down and engage the Adversary in a game of checkers. Now, were you to win the game of checkers, you would get a rather important bit of information without hassle. However, since that's not the object of the exercise, I'll tell you now that actually winning the game of checkers is about one million to one odds against you. So, how else can you come up with to get the information you will want from this man? Uh and let me say right here and now, I do not suggest or encourage or even condone a violent approach. This is about your wits, not the size of your fists."

Grinning at the class, Wilson reached for a clipboard.

"Okay, you'll go in as I read off your names. Oh! I almost forgot. The bit of information. The Adversary knows the essay question that makes up your Midterm. Yes, your Midterm will be one, very detailed essay question. If you get the question from him, you'll have a leg up on know what you need to study and being able to start early on the particular points you want to put in your essay to help get the best grade possible with the least amount of stress to you. So, good luck."

With that, he began to read off the list of names.

[ooc: Please wait for The OCDs are up and ready to go! Just to clarify, no violence guys just crafty witty type witting. Have fun! :D]

Johnny walked in, took a seat, and got comfortable.

A handsome man in a suit appeared to have taken a seat across from him in a brief moment his eyes were not on that position.

"Mr. Storm."

"Mr. Adversary," Johnny said in return.

"Would you care for the first move?" It couldn't be said that he never gave his opponent at least a chance.

Johnny didn't play checkers but he supposed he knew enough. Maybe. He reached out and moved a black chip forward. "So, how's it going?"

A red piece was moved to counter it.

"Going?" Lucifer asked, a mixture of annoyance and amusement over the very informal manner of address.

Johnny was like that; very informal. "Yeah, how you doing today?" Being friendly had to be a great way to get information.

Right?

Lucifer cocked his head slightly, studying Johnny for a long moment. "Perfectly fine. Yourself?"

"Pretty good, I suppose," he replied, staring at the checker board. "Seems like you have a bit of information for me," he looked over at him, "and I need to know what it is going to take to get it." Johnny pushed another black chip forward.

A red chip followed his move.

"Play game, of course."

Silly boy, it should be obvious.

"Nah, I believe this is just a way to pass the time. To make me sweat out the inevitable..."

"The inevitable?" Lucifer asked, one eyebrow raised in amusement.

"That I am not going to win at this game of checkers."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I believe it might be possible," Lucifer replied. "If you were intelligent enough to figure it out."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"But... I am not a checker player," he pointed out with a quirked brow. "I don't even like the game." He stared for a moment at the Adversary. "Unless, of course, you take bribes."

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"A bribe, Mr. Storm?" Lucifer looked as though he might very well wish to laugh. "What exactly would you offer me?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny didn't hesitate. "Name it and it's yours."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucifer laughed. "Take care who you say that to, Mr. Storm. Not all are as kind as myself and willing to ignore such an unthinking offer."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, but I make this offer on the condition that you tell me what I need to know." It made perfect sense, didn't it?

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course.

"And if I want is more than you're willing to give?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Try me," Johnny said.

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your virility."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny cocked his head and gave the Adversary a nervous chuckle. "So for the information I seek, you want me to basically hand over my manhood? Am I understanding this correctly?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucifer simply smiled. "Precisely."

"For how long?" He might could handle it for an hour.
