Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 6 Danger Room!

Sometime over the hectic weekend the students had been handwavey instructed to come to the Danger Room on Monday. Set up in a sort of 'waiting room' there was a spread of classic English tea sandwiches laid out today along with the usual coffee, tea and water.

Wilson was looking a bit amused as he sat in an overstuffed chair and sipped on his coffee.

As soon as everyone had gathered into the Danger Room, Wilson stood up and walked towards an unassuming little door.

"Good morning."

"I hope everybody had a wonderful Homecoming, it seemed to be a lovely weekend and I know I had a good time saying hello to some old friends."

Crossing his arms and his ankles, he grinned at the class.

"Well, today we have a guest speaker, sort of. Actually he's going to be a guest Adversary for you all. Today's lesson is about how you handle a situation when you know you're going to lose the battle but you need to win the war. Only not with a real war or battle mind you, because that would be mean."

Reaching over for his coffee, he took a sip and then set it back down.

"One by one, you'll go through that door, sit down and engage the Adversary in a game of checkers. Now, were you to win the game of checkers, you would get a rather important bit of information without hassle. However, since that's not the object of the exercise, I'll tell you now that actually winning the game of checkers is about one million to one odds against you. So, how else can you come up with to get the information you will want from this man? Uh and let me say right here and now, I do not suggest or encourage or even condone a violent approach. This is about your wits, not the size of your fists."

Grinning at the class, Wilson reached for a clipboard.

"Okay, you'll go in as I read off your names. Oh! I almost forgot. The bit of information. The Adversary knows the essay question that makes up your Midterm. Yes, your Midterm will be one, very detailed essay question. If you get the question from him, you'll have a leg up on know what you need to study and being able to start early on the particular points you want to put in your essay to help get the best grade possible with the least amount of stress to you. So, good luck."

With that, he began to read off the list of names.

[ooc: Please wait for The OCDs are up and ready to go! Just to clarify, no violence guys just crafty witty type witting. Have fun! :D]

Oh, of course.

"And if I want is more than you're willing to give?"

"Try me," Johnny said.

"Your virility."

Johnny cocked his head and gave the Adversary a nervous chuckle. "So for the information I seek, you want me to basically hand over my manhood? Am I understanding this correctly?"

Lucifer simply smiled. "Precisely."

"For how long?" He might could handle it for an hour.

Lucifer studied the board. "It would not be returned, Mr. Storm."

Johnny didn't say anything for a moment. He simply sat there and studied the man across the table from him.

"I do not see the just fairness in such a transaction. I lose my manhood for a simple bit of information that may or may not be beneficial to me."

"You offered it, Mr. Storm." Lucifer glanced up from the board to look Johnny in the eye. "I did not need to negotiate. It was a freely given offer, I simply could have taken." He finally looked back down. "Do be more careful."

"I did," he agreed. "But life altering changes I was not even remotely considerinng." He too, looked back down at the board. He wasn't sure if it was his turn; he had quit paying attention. "Are negotiations still on the table?"

"That is my price, Mr Storm." He leaned forward, smiling like a cat that ate the canary. "Unless you can think of a better offer."

It was apparent Johnny was thinking. This was new. He's never dealt with someone like the Adversary before and the odds were against him, he knew that. "An evening. You would have my time for whatever purpose you desire it for. I'm not sure what I could offer you so this most likely is offered in vain. But," he leaned forward as well. "Would you accept it?"

"No, Mr. Storm," Lucifer replied, tapping his fingers idly on the table. "Too simple. Try again."

"One week." Johnny was losing this war. He slid another chip forward.

Lucifer chuckled, moving his own piece into position to take Johnny's. "Think harder, Mr. Storm. Something a bit more precious to you."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes flashed to the Adversarys. "Savannah." No. That wasn't possible.

And it couldn't be Johnny's power; this one across the table from him was of a higher power and wouldn't have need of Johnny's.

It was hard to admit, but Johnny didn't have much that was precious to him.

Lucifer laughed. "She does not belong to you, Mr Storm, why would I ask you if I wanted her?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because she is precious to me," he answered simply. And no, she didn't belong to him literally... still...

"Would you think me inhuman to say that I'm not sure what is more precious to me than my own life?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Inhuman?" Lucifer smirked. "No, I would not think that. I would say it's a very common belief."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"It's just that putting myself first sounds very selfish," but seriously, without his life, he had nothing.

"I suppose then, I have nothing to offer you that you would be willing to accept."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I think it practical, not selfish," Lucifer remarked idly. "What good are you dead?"

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure I can really die," he responded in all seriousness.

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Lucifer looked him up and down with a clinical gaze. "All things can die, Mr. Storm. It just takes a bit more effort from some than others."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Then what? If I have nothing you want, or need... we are at am impasse and this game is lost."

Re: The Challenge - Johnny Storm

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Very good, Mr. Storm." Lucifer smirked. "Trapped in a dangerous situation, what do you do?"
