Library [10/04]

There's a library, there's a Bridge, and there's a Bridge *at* the library, opening it up. There are no bridges with lowercase b's. Only the singular uppercase one.

The Fandom High Library (uppercase) is open for all your librarying (lowercased, denominalised verb) needs.

First period is mostly spent at the desk, sipping at the absurdly large cup of coffee and trying to stay awake.

Thursday arrived with a vacuum cleaner in tow and a picture of a certain bar owner tucked under one arm. She didn't seem in a particularly good mood. "I'll be in Special Collections," she called. "Problem to deal with. Don't let anything out."

"Will do. Er. What I mean is, I'll do what you ask which is I won't let anything out!" Bridge replies with a wave.

Bridge spends most of second period thinking very thinky thoughts about certain discussion topics that came up with Xander yesterday, in between doing things like putting returns away.

During third period, Bridge is working on redoing this week's notes. With wonderful, wonderful colour coding.

Chris decides to stop by the library before his class to look for books on demonology and witchcraft. He's gotten slack about his studies lately, but his conversation with Andrew has renewed his interest.

"Hey, man," he greets Bridge. "How's it going?"

"Chris!" Bridge looks up from this week's notes and grins. "Haven't seen you in a while. Hi!"

"Things have been crazy," Chris says, grinning back. "How've you been?"

"Pretty good," Bridge shrugs. "This, that... lost my memory this weekend but didn't do anything that embarrassing. How about you?"

Chris shrugs. "Pretty much the same. I almost did something embarrassing, but it ended up being not too bad."

"I spent the weekend thinking I was my boyfriend. Uh, not in a narcissistic sense. In a we mixed up which name belongs to who sense."

"At least you were together?" Chris offers. "I thought my roommate was my girlfriend. Her boyfriend wasn't thrilled about that."

"...Yeah, I can see how that'd be awkward." Bridge says. "Did you guys work things out okay after, though?"

Chris nods. "Yeah, it wasn't quite as bad as when our future AU son showed up. And Shawn didn't kick my ass."

And now it is time for lunch. The library's closed except for those who work here. Bridge may even share his M&Ms with any such people who stop by.

After lunch, there are more returns to put away, except, oh, dude, new issue of Extreme Upgrade! Well, okay, technically from Bridge's point of view it's a back issue, but it's a back issue from a few years before he started subscribing, so that's *like* a new issue. Sort of.

"Hey, you," Z said as she bounced into the library. "What's up?"

"You, apparently," Bridge observes with a smile. "You're all bouncy."

Z smiled. "There's a reason for that."

"Yeah?" Bridge raises an eyebrow. She'd been pretty cheerful in class yesterday too, now that he thought about it.

"Yeah!" Z told him. "I finally got a date."

"Oh yeah?" Bridge's grin gets wider. "With who?"

"Betty," said Z. "You may know him better as Jamie, though."

"Oh, dude, that's awesome!" Bridge hops out from behind the counter to give Z a hug.

Z hugged Bridge back. "I know, right? I mean, he calls me Dorkface, but I said he could, so that's okay."

"Me n' Xander call each other dorks all the time," Bridge says. "So I totally agree."

"I really don't want to know what weird stuff you and Xander get up to," Z said teasingly. "So what do you do in here all day? Commune with the books?"

"There is communing!" Bridge says with a nod. "And also tidying. And sometimes there's note-taking!" Yeah, the "dork" title? Clearly well-deserved.

"Wow," Z said. "Sounds...wow. I'll have to bring board games or something next time I visit."

"That would be-" Bridge starts to say.

Starts, because he turns into a ferret mid-sentence.

Z boggled at the ferret. "...Bridge?"

Bridge looks up at Z, who is suddenly taller than him. A *lot* taller. //What the hell just happened?// he tries to ask. Of course, it comes out in ferret.

"Dude," said Z, "you're a ferret."

Bridge blinks, and then glances down at his hands... er, paws. //Huh.//

A moment later, and he's back to his human-shaped self again.

"Well, that was... different," he says. "At least I managed to keep my clothes this time. Last time they didn't change with me."

"Thank God for that," Z said. "Does that happen often?"

"Only twice so far," Bridge says at the shrug. "Remember this summer's luau? And it happened the year before that too. I was wondering if it's some sort of like, luau-related curse."

"Yeah, but there's no luau coming up that I can think of," Z pointed out. "There's the carnival tomorrow, though."

...Right. Back to actual library work now, before closing up for the day.

At the end of the day, Thursday emerged from Special Collections looking a little worse for wear. The vacuum cleaner and picture were conspicuously missing. She nodded at Bridge, headed to her office to retrieve a few things and headed out the door.

She was still in a bad mood.

Up early because I may possibly be absent early tomorrow morning. Should be around for sure after 12PST though.

I somehow read "denomalised" as "demonized" and went "Oh, no, the library's evil?"

Well, Special Collections is *dangerous* and some say it has a mind of its own, hmm...
