Advanced Mad Science, October 2nd

The Danger Shop didn't look like an Eastern European graveyard this week, but the desks had been moved to the sides in favour of a few odd looking things in the centre of the room. A phonebooth, a Victorian looking chair, and an eighties sportscar took up most of the space in the room, and all three of them seemed to have very odd wires and attachments and levers added to them.

The Professor leaned against the hood of the car while he waited for the class to arrive. "Good afternoon, students!" he said, as soon they had filled into the room. "Today's class subject is time travel. Time travel involves using a special device -- as such the ones behind me -- to puncture through the folds in the space time continuum to take yourself to a different time and occasionally a different place. There are many different methods of achieving this, many of which involve the use of a machine to take you from time to time."

He grinned malevolently at the class. "But the best way to learn about time travel is to throw you right into the deep end." A passed out a number of sealed cards. "Each of you have been given a different objective. You will pick one of these three time machines, and try to fix it. Luckily, this is entirely a holographic simulation, so you can't permanently damage the timeline. Try not to mess up the space-time continuum too much."

Up and ready!

Zack frowned. "How are we supposed to fit at whale in that?"

Valentine gave his shoulders a shrug and grinned.

"It's bigger than the telephone booth. Perhaps we can hook a tow-rope up to the whale... thingie and bring it to the future that way."

Valentine obviously had no idea what a whale was.

"That only works they want a dead whale," Zack pointed out.

"I don't even know what a whale is," Valentine complained. "How am I supposed to know what might kill it?"

He considered for a moment.

"Do you figure we'd have better luck trying to fit it into the phone booth, then?"

"A humpback whale is larger than the classroom," Zack explained helpfully. "It lives in water and doesn't have legs."

Valentine looked between the chair, the phone booth, and the DeLorean again.

"You know, the assignment doesn't specify that the whales have to be alive."

"It would be better for them to arrive alive," Prof Tomoe called out from his desk. "In this scenario, an alien probe will destroy the world unless the whales are able to sing for it."

"Maybe we could chain a tank to the car?" Zack suggested.

"Do they have tanks big enough for things bigger than this classroom?"

Valentine certainly hoped so.

"It's a shame whales can't fly, like fish. We could just leash them to the car and be on our way."

"I think so," Zack said. "We'd just have to find one."

"A leash, or a tank?"

It was pretty sad when he was asking this question in all seriousness.

"Because if whales can fly, this will be so much simpler."

"Of course."

Valentine knew that. Honest.

"I suppose we'll have to go there to find out, hm?"

Valentine poked the car.

"How do these thingies work?"

He was a lost cause.

"Don't worry, I took driver's ed," Zack said, getting behind the wheel.

Valentine should probably start worrying.

Valentine was a very intelligent individual. He typically knew when to worry, when to breathe, and when to run like hell.

He got into the passenger's side of the car.

Sometimes, even Valentines had lapses in judgment.

Zack revved the engine and put his foot down on the accelerator. Hard.

Valentine was probably not aware how close to death he theoretically would be, were they not in the Danger Shop.

As it stood, he was too busy marveling at the screech of the tires as they spun underneath them before they shot forward. And then backward! In time! Gasp!

When he figured they'd spend enough time travelling ha! Zack slammed on the brakes.

Aaaaand Valentine went careening forward, his face bouncing against the dashboard.

Seatbelts. Seatbelts. He'd have to commit that to memory.

Fortunately, his face was a nice latex-rubber sculpt and was therefore pleasantly bouncy. Valentine was fine.
