Comparative Religions--Monday, Period 3, Class #4--Atonement, Absolution, and Redemption
"Well," Vala said as everyone was seated, trying not to look like she'd obviously been listening to the radio over the weekend, "we were supposed to continue on in our exploration of the religions of this planet, but instead of highlighting the differences, I think today will be about exploring one of their similarities--the idea of forgiveness, for those who truly repent for something they've done wrong, whether it has hurt anyone or not."
"The methods may vary--some fast and ask repentance for everything in one shot, others involve going to a small booth and reporting everything done since the last report, others involve writing the sin down and sending it off into the ether, others involve asking forgiveness of the person who has been wronged. Some also involve sacrifices, but I'm told that is no longer socially acceptible on this planet. What is important, however, is that the message is the same--if you're sorry for what you have done, and wish to do better, you can acknowledge what you've done wrong and prove by your actions that this is true, and you will be forgiven."
"So. I'm going to leave you to it. There are various methods available, and whether or not you choose to repent is up to you, since that's none of my business and is between you and your supreme being of choice. Whenever you're ready, you can use that method, or just leave the room when you're finished."

During the Lecture

And then wondering if it might not be worth it anyway.

Re: During the Lecture
What had him really snarly today was, well, two things.
First, that he was possibly the last person in this room to even think for a moment about seeking redemption for anything that he had done, especially considered where he stood with his own particular 'supreme being.'
Second, he had destroyed his coat over the weekend, and was sitting there in his vest and dress shirt. Augh.
Re: During the Lecture
Remembering that, he groaned and slumped lower into his seat.
Go to Confession!

Write Down Your Sin
Re: Write Down Your Sin
I'm not sure if I even believe in a higher power, but if you're there, then I apologize for whatever it is that I've done wrong that makes you want to take away everyone in my life. I don't know what terrible thing I could have done, but I assure you I'm very sorry and willing to do almost anything to make up for it.
She folded the letter up very small and dropped it in the box. She knew it was stupid and useless, but she couldn't seem to stop herself from doing it - just in case.
Re: Write Down Your Sin
Adah Price would probably forever believe that sin was a creation of men like her father, because they had no other way of controlling their world. Therefor, she had no intention of acknowledging that she was ever a victim of it. But it seemed like she had to at least do something for class, so she went over, found a piece of paper and wrote limericks:
There once was a girl named Adah
Who thought religion lacked necessary data
She said, 'To hell with redemption
It only works on the assumption
That any of this ever even matta's.
She slipped into into the box, and limped away.
Re: Write Down Your Sin
I really don't know what's so great about you, anyway, but you got the best of my father back in the day, so you probably aren't half as pathetic as he is. Congratulations.
Oh. And I'm supposed to confess something, here. I convinced some stupid kid to ride a bike out a window. The only thing I'm sorry about is the fact that he didn't crash and die when we hit the dirt at the end. Oops.
He stuck the letter in the box, straightened his vest, smirked, and left the room.
