Diplomacy

Good afternoon

I’d like to begin by getting to know the class. If you could tell me why you picked this class... "Because I had to" is not an acceptable answer. We all have choices, whether it is clear or if it is not.

I’d also like to know what you hope to learn here.

Now, we’re going to have little bit or a writing assignment here. This won’t be graded. Yes, you have to do it as it does count towards class participation. For the next class, I want you to give me a minimum of 1 page, double spaced, answer to this question:

What do I think diplomacy is?

We will be discussing this next week. I think this will be a good way to get a feel of where we are... and where we need to go.

When I become the best viper pilot in the Fleet...when I become an officer in the Fleet, I will need to know the necessary diplomacy tactics to keep myself rising through the ranks in a proper sort of manner. Also, I feel that I will be called to do many diplomatic duties that will require patience, strategy and a good textbook background to fall back on when crisis hits. I am very much looking forward to learning from you, Ms. Amidala.

Diplomacy seems to be skill in handling affairs without arousing hostility. Or perhaps arousing suspicion and getting yourself tossed into a tower out by the Abyss. Also it is getting most of what you want without your sister taking it out of your flesh later. Not that she has, but she would given the chance.

(ooc: sorry for the tardiness, I live in the Mountain time zone and work very strange hours. please to forgive. I will be keeping up with things, just, well, later than everyone else on the planet seemingly.)

Oh, so sorry, I forgot to say that I chose this class so I could learn to do a better job not getting killed by one of my siblings.

My family is... large and, well, prone to infights.

Diplomacy is... actually, I'm not very well-versed on the term. It's the talking part before the shooting?

Well, I'll probably end up working as a courier one day, and while there's nothing much that'll actually hurt me, Dad says we want to avoid things like "shooting the messenger" and what not, 'cause it's bad for business. So I gotta learn to be all diplomatic and shit.

Well, my father is governer of Port Royale, so I wanted to take this to understand what it is he and the British Navy does and show him that I'm not just a silly little girl.

As for what diplomacy is, I always understood it to be the negotiations between two separate regions in order to avoid a full-scale war. *blinks* I've been eavesdropping on Commadore Norrington's meetings.

See, it's like this - I have this friend, and she's always asking me to do stuff for her, and I want to say no, but I'm not very good at it, because I feel like I should help her out - she's a nice girl, and she's had a rough year, and she helped me out (with the previously mention flagpole incident), but I'm tired of sneaking around and doing things that could get us in some serious trouble, so I need some help saying no without hurting anyone's feeling or making them mad at me. Umm, and I thought it would go well with Advanced Negotiations, you know?
