Chuck got into the classroom a few seconds after the bell rung. He didn’t seem happy with this time. Too soon, probably. That meant more time teaching.



“All right, class. Today is your first practical debating session. Today’s debates will count for credit. Winners get A’s, losers get F’s.” He gave the class a stern look. “As I told you before, losing should be avoided at all costs. This grading system is the perfect incentive to make sure you all fight your hardest.”

Chuck passed out debating topics. “Break off into pairs, pick a topic, and go at it. I’ll walk around the classroom and keep an eye on your progress. Come up after class and tell me who won. And no arguing over who was victorious. If there hasn’t been a solid victory by the end of class, then you’re both failures.” He shrugged. “Sounds a little dog-eat-dog, I know. But that’s just the way life is. Go!”

"My argument is that you're insane. And I was just tossing the dictionary to you so you could see how wrong you are," Mel said innocently.

"You're arguing that I'm insane? You're the one throwing books at my head," Jim pointed out. "Again, exactly the kind of thing I'd expect from an outie."

"It's not paranoia if you're actually throwing books at my head," Jim said. "And outies are known for projecting their own psychoses onto others, so, hey, I guess you hit on another outie stereotype."

"And innies just looooove to put wrongful stereotypes on outies. One tossed book and we become violent creatures with projected psychoses. Do you listen to yourself?"

"I'm not stereotyping, I'm applying empirical research," Jim argued.

"I'm judging hypotheses based on what's in front of me. And waht's right in front of me is a crazy person," Jim said.

"But we've already established your delusional-ness so your hypotheses is invalid. And therefore invalid," Mel countered. "Plus, you're still fat."

"You're not even trying to argue in a reasonable manner anymore," Jim said. "I win by default."

"That's because you've been off your meds for so long you don't even know what reasonable is," Mel countered. "But since you're so pitiful I'll let you have your when so you won't have a psychotic break."
