Library [Saturday]

Mac, bringing with her copious amounts of caffiene as usual, came down to open up the library.

As as far as reading material goes, she's now moved on from bizarre sci-fi to obscure philosophy.

Settled behind the desk, she's following Sam's good example and playing the sims.

Peter wasn't a huge fan of getting up early on Saturdays. Which is why it was afternoon by the time he came down to the library.

Acting all sneaky-like, he went up to the main counter and tried to look like he was just minding his own business, and not carrying contraband in a shopping bag he'd brought with him.

"You know how suspicious loitering around like that looks?" Mac asked with a little smirk, when she glanced up from her screen

"Crud," Peter said. "I was trying to go for invisible. Shame I don't know anybody with that power, huh?"

Mac grinned, giving a nod. "Sorry, can't help you there," she said. "Where are all those invisible people when you need them?"

"They are seriously hard to find," Peter said. He put the bag on the library counter. "Here. I brought you something."

"Ooh." Mac leaned forward curiously. "What brought this on?"

"You being forced to be in a library on a Saturday," Peter replied. He opened the bag. "Coffee with soy milk and donuts. Figured it could be a pick-me-up."

"Yeah, still the best roomie ever," Mac declared. "No question." She grinned, closing her laptop and moving it to the side.

"It's actually not so bad, being in here on a weekend," she said. "No one comes in, so I can pretty much do what I want."

Peter grabbed a chair so he could keep her company while he drank his own coffee. "Really? I would've thought it'd be like being in classes for an extra day."

"Well, I'm not really a big outdoorsy person anyway," she pointed out. "So, being indoors with a whole load of books, isn't really a problem for me."

"It's worth it for the keys to the TA lounge," she added with a little grin. "Best coffee in the school... other than this, obviously," she added, gesturing at the cup on the counter.

Peter's eyebrows quirked up. "We have a TA lounge?"

Mac nodded. "Other side of the cafeteria," she said. "Obviously a better kept secret than I knew."

"See, if I'd known that I would've volunteered to be a TA much sooner," Peter said. "For the good of my studies, of course."

"Oh, obviously." Mac grinned, finally picking up the coffee she'd been brought. "It was one of the first things Jake told me when I met him," she said. "Never looked back after that."

"I will say this about Fandom," Peter said. "Good coffee. Bagels suck but I'm required by law to say that."

"... required by law?" Mac queried, arching an eyebrow.

"I'm from New York," Peter explained. "Best bagels and pizzas in all the land, no matter what dimension you're from."

"Ahh." Mac nodded. "I guess that makes sense. I'm probably supposed to do the same for something ultimately Californian. My hometown itself is kind of lacking in speciality food for the area."

"Sushi?" Peter suggested. "Isn't that something California's supposed to be known for?"

Mac wrinkled her nose. "Never much liked the stuff," she said. "Although, I only tried it once before I turned vegan... I just remember it being slimy."

"Yeah, not too many vegan sushis out there," Peter admitted. "Though I'd think you wouldn't have too many problems with vegan restaurants, right? In California I mean. Not here. I think Red states consider being vegan to be equal to supporting the terrorists."

"No, can't deny that Neptune was better than here from that side of things," she said with a chuckle. "People here are far more likely to give me funny looks."

"I should take you to the city sometime," Peter said. "Plenty of good vegan-friendly places there. Teany's great, for instance. Plus it's got the Moby connection."

"I've heard of that one, actually," Mac said with a nod. "It's one people who've been to tend to remember. One day, I'll get myself up there for a visit."

"Maybe on a school break," Peter suggested. "You could stay at my place. Assuming you could stand living with me for a few days," he added, teasing.

"You know, I don't know if I could handle that," Mac replied with a little smirk.

Her smirk broke into a quick grin. "That would be nice sometime," she clarified.

"I'm sure we could swing it for a weekend sometime," Peter said. "Take the train or something. You planning on going home for any of the holidays?"

"Nothing concrete yet," Mac replied. "I tend not to, though... It's quite a long trip if I'm only going to be there a week or so at the most."

"There you go," Peter said. "Short trip, and you can help keep me sane when Ma tries to make big events out of everything."

Mac grinned. "Having someone around to help you deal with parents, never a bad thing," she agreed, sipping at her tea.

"Then again, my mom regularly refers to me as a freakball in front of my friends... " she added. "So, never sure if introducing her to people is a good idea sometimes.!

"Seriously?" Peter asked. "Man, that - that sucks. I'm sorry."

"She's usually not being serious, or anything," Mac clarified. "But still, sometimes it gets a bit frustrating."

"I hear ya," Peter said, with sympathy. "I always get the speech about keeping my head out of the clouds. Like if they say it one more time I'm going to change the way I do things."

Mac huffed a little chuckle, nibbling on a donut. "That's families for you," she said. "Can't live with them, love them anyway."

"I'd go nuts without Ma and Nathan," Peter said. "If it wasn't for everything I'm learning here about using my powers I have no idea how I'd be able to stay."
