There was a tall, military-looking redhead - better known to most as Lieutenant Kerrigan - in a sleek metal suit tapping her foot against the floor of the Danger Shop and looking just this side of incredibly annoyed.

"Listen, children, you're obviously here because you did something incredibly stupid. Today, I am going to show - not tell - you how incredibly dumb that is, and how incredibly dead you are going to be should you do something stupid again. Shut up, don't talk, and get the hell into the sim before I personally decide to nail your butts to the wall."

She pointed at a projector on the wall.

Stupid people brought out the military in her.

Jack decided to pull a move from the movies and do a quick turn, catching on to some scrub to help him spin around at speed, firing at the three wingaling dragons, trying to duck under them as they flew over. At least, that was the plan.

Jack's plan worked out splendidly.

Unfortunately for Jack, that left him wide open for the three Zerglings (http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Zerglings) behind him to unburrow and launch themselves at him, claws-first, as soon as the Mutalisks flew past.

That was not a scream or a meep coming from Jack's mouth. It certainly did not sound feminine.

It was a trick of the light. That's it.

He turned and fired wildly as he ran for his life.

The Zerglings may or may not have secretly been related to puppies, because underneath the empty minds and remote-control mechanisms, they felt as if they were having fun breaking off into pursuit of Jack.

There may have even been some tongue-wagging.

"Sit! Stay! Roll over! Fetch!" Jack yelled at the weird reptilian dino-dog things. Oh, for a tree to climb or a hole to leap across to slow 'em down. Or a good stick to thwap 'em with. More with the running!

The unfortunate thing about empty wastelands was that, beyond the occasional dead tree or rock, it was all a little... well.

Empty.

Finally, the front Zergling had had enough of all the running and pushed off, leaping for Jack's head.

Jack managed to stumble and fall a bit, avoiding the jumping Zergling. He stared at it for a second before shooting it. A lot. And turned to see its friends. Running? Yes, let's try running. He scooped up some rocks to throw. It sounded like a plan in his head.

The jumping Zergling was now very, very dead, being not particularly resistant to the ailment of bullets to the head.

It managed to explode in an appropriately gory fashion at the same time, though.

Rocks, on the other hand, were not particularly effective. It mostly just annoyed them, prompting them both to launch themselves at Jack claws-first.

Jack zigged and sagged, firing wildly over his shoulder, aiming back for the gate.

Wherever that was. Was that it over there?

He tried that U-Turn move again on a dead tree trunk.

It was in the middle of that U-Turn that Jack would have found himself strangely and mysteriously located in what appeared to be an entirely ordinary lunch room (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1527143.html?thread=93642855#t93642855).

There were no nasties in sight.
