"Today we discuss lying," Anakin said as he closed the classroom door precisely on time. "Everyone lies. 'Of course that doesn't make your butt look big.' 'You like her, I like her.' 'I'm totally okay with you moving on.' 'Everything's fine, why do you ask?' It's how the world goes around because no one wants to be trapped in a conversation where someone whines at you for hours on end about how awful their life is."

He looked around the room. "Trust me. Everyone's life is terrible. They're just not telling you about it. Be grateful."

He reached onto his desk for a piece of paper. "Today we're conducting an exercise to see how well you pass this particular social ritual, then we'll discuss whether you think it is necessary. We're playing two truths and a lie. I'll tell you three things about myself and you have to decide which one is the falsehood. Then you'll all tell three things and we'll see how well you can either read each other or keep things hidden."

He gave them a small smile. "I'm very good at this." He schooled his face to absolute neutrality, put his mental blocks up to bar the Jedi in the room from gaining an advantage, then recited: "I've never been beaten in one-on-one space flight combat. I'm not afraid of anything. I named my children after people I met in Fandom." His eyes challenged them to call him out. "Who's next?"

"I've helped stop a government coup. I've never actually flown in battle. I can fix just about anything you put in front of me."

Gavin frowned and guessed, "Third one."

"Nope," said Jaina, shaking her head. "Sorry."

"You could fix something from this planet, then?"

"It might take me a little longer to figure it out, but I think I can," she said. It wasn't as much immodesty as just knowing her own skills.

"So, if I went and smashed something, you'd fix it for me?"

"Depends on how bad you smashed it and how many pieces it's in. I did say almost anything."

"Point," Gavin said but was already thinking about smashing things and making her fix it.

"The first one," John guessed, thinking of her hoverboard and her having mentioned something about an ongoing war.

"First one's true," she said. "Very long story."

"You'll have to share that one sometime," he said. "I suppose you haven't flown in battle yet, then?"

"The second," Sokka announced. She looked like a battle-type person.

"Got it in one," Jaina said, with a sort of congratulatory tone.

"That's because I'm awesome," Sokka admitted, with a smile.

"'Just about' anything?" Kabuto asked, curiosity piqued. "'Just about' meaning...what, exactly?"

"I mean if it's broken and it used to work," Jaina said. "Mechanics, generally."

"Ah, okay. Not like healing, then." To Kabuto, that was important. "Interesting. So you have flown in battle, then?"

Jaina nodded. "Many times. I'm a fighter pilot."

"I see. The affinity for mechanics must come in handy." Kabuto smiled. "Keeps you alive."
