Sam was very glad to be back in the library again for another semester, as proven by his exceptionally good mood.

"Dude, you think before you act so much that half the time you end up not acting at all."

"And sometimes, inaction is the better option to take," Sam replied. "You know, I don't have all of the experience that you have. I don't just automatically know what to do with Dawn all the time like you would."

"See, this is where I have more confidence in you than you have in yourself," Dean told him. "You know what to do, Sammy. You just don't trust yourself."

"I could still screw up badly and lose Dawn," he argued. "Even now, after almost a year."

"You won't," Dean told him.

Sam laughed shortly. "You don't know that. And if I have a chance to learn something - anything - that might help me keep her happy, then I'm going to take it."

"I do know that," Dean said. "And if you did manage to screw up, that's what big brothers are for -- to fix it."

"What, you think you can just swoop in and fix whatever it is I did wrong?" Sam asked.

"Pretty much," Dean said. "Or at least keep her from running away until you can pull your head out of your ass and fix it yourself. I've done it before."

"Maybe," Sam admitted, sighing softly. "I just worry sometimes that I'm going to screw things up in a way that can't be fixed."

"You worry too much," Dean told him.

Sam thought about arguing, but realized that he really couldn't. "I know."

"I've got your back, Sammy. I'm not going to let you screw things up. Promise."

Sam looked up at Dean and gave him a smile. "Thanks Dean. I think you're one of the few people who could get Dawn to forgive me if I really did something bad."

"All part of my charm."

"Finally, a good use for all of that charm," Sam teased. "So, are you still weirded out by me?"

"I wasn't weirded out by you," Dean said. "Just the praying."

"Okay, fine, are you still weirded out by the praying?" he asked. "It's not like you're going to notice me doing it. You never have before."
