Art 101, Period 4, Class 1

Steve was glad to finally be in a real classroom in a real school, as there was only so long he could willfully ignore the blown-up school he was supposed to be teaching at. "Good afternoon!" he said cheerfully to his class. "I'm Mr. Rogers, and this is Art 101. In this class we're going to play around with a lot of different art styles, doing some different projects, and maybe we'll have a little bit of a surprise later in the semester. It'll be fun, I promise. You'll be graded, yes, but on effort, not talent, so don't worry about that. If stick figures are the best you can do, great, draw stick figures. This is my TA, Namine," he said, gesturing to her. "So be nice to her.

"Now, today we're just going to get to know each other. I'd like to go around the room, and everyone tell the class your name, any previous experience you have with art classes, and what you think your favorite medium is. And one more interesting thing about you. Okay? Great."

Sora was actually listening. This was after all his first school class in over two years.

Naminé was definitely attentive. She was thrilled to be taking an art class again and brimming with excitement.

Art class, wheeeeeee. Pity they weren't actually going to be doing anything today, but that that just meant that A.J. would have to book it to his room and get out his stuff once class was done. Not like he really ever did anything else anyway.

"My name is Sora," he smiled. "I've never taken an art class before, but my friends and I used to scratch pictures into the rocks in a cave that we played in when we were little." Sora paused to think of something intersting about himself. "Uhh... I.. I've saved the world?"

Naminé nodded quickly. "My name is Naminé, and previous to this I took an Arts and Crafts class with Mr. Rogers early in the summer term. I enjoyed it very much. My favorite medium ... is actually crayons on paper. Colored pencils give you better accuracy, but the crayons have a very pure feel to them, and give you a textured result. As for something interesting about me, I --"

She stopped short. She was tired of saying that she wasn't meant to exist and didn't, and it was Mr. Rogers who had pointed out that she didn't know any of that for sure, anyway. Something new, then. There were other interesting things about her. Ones that didn't involve being an echo of someone left behind.

She cleared her throat. "Sorry," she said with a light flush. "I once unknowingly rescued someone from an interdimensional void by sending him a sketch. It opened a doorway, I suppose. That's ... interesting, isn't it?"

"I'm Savannah Levine. I took your workshop when I first Got here over the summer, and I have taken art classes through schools and such. My favorite mediums are pencils and charcoals, but I also like painting, as well." She thought for a moment. "An interesting thing about me? I'm a witch."

"Hey, I'm A.J. Art's kind of...y'know, everything for me. It's like...the essence of life, and stuff? I haven't actually had a lot of classes; it's all been up here," he pointed to his head, "and through here," waggle of the fingers, "but I've studied a lot of history, 'cause that's important. And, uh, yeah. Art. Good stuff. I work a lot in oils, but metal is my favorite medium. And after the kid who saved the world, the girl rescuing through art, and the witch, I don't think I have anything that could possibly ever be interesting."

The bright smile that concluded this excellent delivered speech, however, showed that A.J. was quite all right with that.

"I'm John Sheppard," he said. "I don't have any experience with art, but I always liked coloring books when I was a little kid. So I guess my favorite medium is the crayon, but I'm open to new things. And, uh, something interesting about myself is that I like to fly."

"I'm Pam Beesly," she said shyly. "Um, I took a couple art classes at my old school. My favorite medium is pencil -- I like both charcoal and color, depending on what I'm drawing. And my interesting thing is...um...I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue." She shrugged. "Sorry, I don't have any powers or anything cool like that."

"My name is Abigail Whistler, and I've never taken a formal art class before. My favorite medium is probably regular pencils and colored pencils, because if you screw up really badly, you can erase and start over again. And one interesting thing about me is that I hunt vampires. Not that that's helpful here, but..."

"My name is Michelangelo, named after the painter, yeah, but totally not nearly as artistically awesome as the dude. I took the art class that you taught in the summertime, which was way cool." Mikey pondered for a moment. "My favorite medium is, uh, totally Play-Doh, and one interesting thing about myself? Aside from the fact that I'm a large turtle? I... think that radish and pork rinds are perfectly acceptable pizza toppings."

Naminé was here, with her everpresent sketchpad handy.

Sulley arrived late enough that he pretty much missed all but the last 5 minutes of class. He lingered outside until people left and then came in. "Uh, Mr. Rogers?"
