Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

"Then that's good," Rikku said. He thought they were? That didn't sound totally - okay, not her business. "Plus I think you get better at it, you know?"

"It was a pretty sucky summer," Luke said, "but that wasn't her fault. I feel bad."

"Don't," she said with a shrug. "I mean, I had a terrible summer, too, but ... that's just what happens. You kinda sign up for all sides of that when you're dating someone, yeah? It's not like Jude went 'hey, you've been really down about this whole Hamlet thing, that blows' or whatever. He was just sad that I was sad and wanted me to feel better. That kinda thing. I'm sure it was the same for her."

Rikku gave him another squeezy hug. "Just like it was for your friends. How are you doing, by the way? I mean, are things ... better?"

"They're getting there," Luke said. "Ben stopped by. Being dead is not an excuse to not show up and lecture an old student when you're a Jedi, apparently."

"That's kinda neat," she said with a smile. "That you can still see your friends and chat with them. I wonder if that's why the Yevonites always went to the Farplane. Seemed kinda silly to me. Our dead couldn't talk back or anything. What did Ben say?"

"That I shouldn't hate my father," Luke said, kicking at the dirt. "Which, you know, is easier to say when you're dead."

"Is it?" Rikku shrugged. "I don't see why people hate less just 'cause they're dead. Auron still hated Yunalesca, I think. Although I bet it's way easier to say 'cause it's not his father."

Luke nodded. "On Alderaan Day," he said. "It took longer to connect the call than it lasted. She holds a grudge like he does."

"You should tell her that. Tell her she's being just as stubborn and pigheaded as he is." Rikku giggled. "Then she'll still be mad, but for totally different reasons."

"I don't want to find out if she can kill me through a comlink," Luke said with a small shudder, "and if she hurts the Falcon, Han'll never forgive me."
