Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

Dawn had set herself up at one of the tables. On the table was a plate with a large number of vibrantly red and green cookies. She was dressed in her longest, flowiest skirt, a tank top, and was barefoot, with a printed scarf tied around her head and the largest pair of hoop earrings she owned was in her ears.

In front of her was a sign that read, "TRUTH ABOUT FANDOM: FIVE CENTS."

She was there to verify rumors and perhaps start new ones. Future telling she'd leave to someone else.

[ooc: Cookies are free, and are wasabi oatmeal raisin and cayenne cherry chocolate chip, so be warned.]

Hoshi wouldn't mind knowing the truth about Fandom, but she had a problem. "Five cents?" she asked. "I thought currency was no longer used." At least, they no longer used money in 2144 where she was from and she hadn't yet realized that she was in 2007.

Sam had taken over Grace duty from Dean, and was walking around and carrying her, taking to her quietly. When he saw Dawn, he stopped in front of the table and read the sign before laughing. "You're going to scar the new people before they've even gotten settled, aren't you?"

"Wow." Dawn blinked at the idea of not using money, too much her sister's sister to not go omg, how will I shop? as she watched the other girl. "Okay, I have a couple of questions for you, and you shouldn't be afraid. When and where are you from?"

"Yes," she nodded. "That'll be five cents, please. Cookie?"

She grinned. "That actually was the opposite of what I was planning, but whatever." She got up and walked around the table, offering Grace her finger to play with and really, really trying not to die of the adorable that was Sam carrying his little baby sister around. "Hi. Having fun?"

"Yes, I am," Sam replied, watching as Grace reached to hold on to Dawn's finger. "Grace, this is Dawn. She was there when you were born, although she wasn't trying to swindle people out of their hard-earned nickels then."

Hoshi had already seen and heard enough to make her very afraid. "Kyoto, Japan. 2144. About 80 years after first contact with Vulcan?" she said, looking hopeful.

"Oooh!" Dawn switched to passable, if not spectacular, Japanese. She also stumbled over a couple of phrases and numbers. "//It's only 2007 here, so we're not quite where you're used to, yet. Who's Vulcan?//"

"I confirmed that this place is weird," she argued, "so technically, I told you the truth."

"I'm okay with them being inherited nickels," Dawn told him, then leaned over to kiss Grace on the forehead. As for the dying of adorable, that wasn't going so well. It was really adorable. "Hi, Gracie. And I was, and I can show you how to sneak out of the house when you want to date a boy, if you want. It has to be the right boy, though. None of this vampire business."

Hoshi smiled. It wasn't the most exotic language she spoke, but Japanese was still her first and it made her feel a bit more like home, even if it was the wrong year. "//I guess you haven't met the Vulcans yet either. They're from another planet. And it's only 2007? That shuttlepod ride must have been longer than I thought.//"

"You didn't have to ask," Dawn said, pulling things out of her ass from way too much time spent watching Court TV and Judge Judy. "You saw the sign, and by saying something that required a response, you accepted the contract and its terms."

She held her hand out. "Five cents, please."
