Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

"Not anymore," he replied happily. "But we all started that way at some point. I'm John Sheppard, by the way." John offered his hand in greeting.

Harry took it, shaking it firmly. "Harry Potter. How long did it take you to get used to this place?"

"Not too long, once I got over the newness of magic and superpowers," John replied thoughtfully.

"Superpowers?" Harry asked, leaving the magic bit for the moment.

"Yep," John nodded. "It's like something out of the comics, except real." Wow, deep thought, John.

"And what about you?" he wondered. "Do you have any powers or anything like that?"

"Unfortunately, no," he sighed dramatically. "How 'bout yourself?"

"I'm a wizard," Harry said, as casually as he could.

"The healing glowy bubble kind or the gets to play the flying game on brooms that I can't play cuz I'm not a wizard kind?" John wasn't totally jealous after that conversation with Neville.

"...the second. There's another kind?" Harry asked, staring. "I brought my broom, if you want to see it.

"Yeah, but the other kind doesn't have sports," John waved his hand dismissing it. "Do you play this broom game?"

"I'm a Seeker," he told him. "Who've you talked to who knows Quidditch? Hermione?"

"Cool," John replied, impressed since he'd been given a great overview of Quidditch, even if he couldn't say its name. "You know Hermione? A new guy named Neville told me all about it earlier. So how high can you fly on a broom?"

"Neville's here?" Harry stared. "Yeah, I know Hermione. And I don't know. I flew through clouds last summer. Not all that fun."

"I think that was his name, yeah," John shrugged, much more interested in the flying talk. "So, that's at least 6500 feet...awesome!"

"I have a really fast broom, too," Harry added, shoving aside his confusion about Neville. "How much do you know about Quidditch?"

"How fast can it go?" John asked, grinning. "Well, I was given a general overview of the rules and the Ronsky feint. Sounds like a wild game."

"Zero to a hundred and fifty in ten seconds," Harry answered. "It's the best game in the world."

John's jaw dropped. "With a human riding uncovered? That. Is. Fast."

"I'm thinking Quidditch wins the battle of the sports hands down if it's really...yeah." How had no one told John about the flying game before?!

Harry grinned happily, banishing the thoughts of Sirius that were always inspired by talk of the Firebolt. "It's fast. You know any teams? There are a few here in the States."

"No, Neville didn't mention teams," John replied. "Any teams in this area?" Because seeing a game had to happen.

"There's the Fitchburg Finches in Massachusetts," Harry said, struggling to remember American geography. "That's close, right?"

"That's not too far for a sporting event," John agreed. "I'm seeing a field trip in our future."
