Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

"You're on," Anders said, slapping his hand against the ball for emphasis.

Better than the other him or not, Anders was still going to kick his ass. He hoped.

"Good." And Lee was already feeling better. Pyramid was familiar, something from home and winning...well, that was familiar too. "Been awhile since I played. Hope I don't make it too easy on you."

"We'll see about that," Anders said with that tiny hint-of-a-smirk that any athlete worth his salt learned to do in Trash-Talking 101. "Be good to have someone to play with again."

"Be good not to feel like I'm completely lost," Lee agreed. "Anders. What's with the glitter?"

"Ohhhhhhhhhhh," Anders said knowingly. "You've been introduced to the glitter already, have you?"

No, he wasn't answering the question just yet; he thought it might be a little bit of fun to string Lee along for a minute or two.

"Buffy had some she wanted to dump on me, I think," Lee told him. "And pouted when I wouldn't let her."

"Beware the glitter, Adama," Anders told him solemnly. "It is a powerful thing. Don't ever take it lightly."

And Lee didn't know Anders well enough to think he was being anything but seriously honest.

"Frak, it's that bad?" Now he wanted to check that he hadn't been glittered without know knowledge.

""Never said it was bad," Anders replied with a slightly mischievous smile. "Just that it works really, really well."

Lee eyed him. "Personal experience?"

Anders shrugged broadly. "Nah, never really needed the glitter to convince me, but I've seen it in action a lot."

"I don't think I get the appeal," Lee said helplessly. "I mean, why?"

"Because it's fun," Anders said in a distinct tone of 'duh.' "Also the girls think it's really pretty."

"It's fun?" Lee repeated. He might be able to get behind that second option though. "How often does this type of thing happen?"

"Ehhhhhhh." Anders scrunched his face up, thinking, for a moment. "Not as often as it sounds like, honestly. Sometimes it just sort of . . . spontaneously happens."

"My father would love to hear this," Lee mumbled, scrubbing a hand across his eyes. "Take you a long time to get used to this place?"

"Not as long as I thought it would," said Anders by way of being encouraging. "Once the initial shock wears off, it's easy."

Lee nodded slowly. "I'll just have to kick your ass at Pyramid, make myself feel more at home."

[*matches!*]

Anders snorted good-naturedly. "Yeah, I guess I can throw a game for you in the spirit of helping you settle in."

Lee shook his head sadly. "Don't throw anything on my account. I need somewhat of a challenge."

Anders wondered if -- hmm. He got to his feet slowly, and yep, still taller than this Lee. That was reassuring.

"Yeah," he drawled slowly, making just the tiniest display of having to look down. "I don't think you have to worry about that."

At that, Lee attempted to pull himself up to his full height. He was Still. Shorter. Than. Anders.

Frak.

He stuck his chin out and said, "Good. Can't have me falling asleep on the Pyramid court due to a dull opponent."
