Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

"I'm Anemone." she grinned at Dawn and surveyed the crowd of milling students. "So, I've survived dinosaurs without too much trauma. Aliens don't phase me, and I now know magic is real. Any tips to keep the rest of my sanity from leaking out my ears?"

"Don't specifically invite people into your room," Dawn told her immediately. "I'm not saying to make them stand in the hall, but if they can't come over the threshold without you telling them to come in, they're probably either vampy or demonic."

"Ah, yes. I've already had someone ask me if I was a vampire." Anemone nodded sagely. "Any particular phrasing you recommend? The one I heard was 'you can come in if you're not a vampire.' My world is fortunately vampire free, so I'm not clear on the etiquette." She frowned at the sign briefly. "I don't have any nickels on me, but you could start a tab and I can pay later in nickels, cookies, or pie."

"Pie, please," she said immediately, "and I usually just say hi and tell them the door's open, since the other one could let demons in. Wait. Why did people think you were a vampire?"

"Demons too? Ick." Anemone wrinkled her nose in distaste. "It was super-late, and I understand vampires come out at night. I think he was being sarcastic."

"He who?" To Dawn, this was a perfectly acceptable question. "And maybe you were just out late?"

"John Connor. I'd gone for a walk and didn't want to walk back up to the school in the dark by myself. I knew where he lived in town, so I went to beg a ride." It was a perfectly acceptable question to Anemone too, she just edited the answer a bit.

"Yup. Can't let a girl go wandering around Fandom after dark alone!" Anemone bounced a bit and grinned. "Well, no one should go anywhere alone after dark. You just have a higher chance of being chased by dinosaurs or something here than other places."

Dawn grinned at her. "Yes, that's definitely more likely here. Did you hear about the mummies? And the trolls?"

Oh wise one? Dawn cracked up. "This is the story of how boys who are very pretty shouldn't give directions or be polite to a bunch of trolls who just end up kidnapping them and trying to use them as sex slaves."
