Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

Troy noticed the guy he thought he may have seen around a couple of times, maybe, but didn't think he'd met -- and then noticed the jersey and the ball. "You play sports?" he asked as he walked up, almost without realising that he was speaking. "Which sports?"

Anders recognized the look of a fellow jock when he saw one. He held up the grapefruit-sized ball, spinning it between his fingers with the ease of years of practice. "Pyramid's my main one," he said, "which is sort of a mix between football, basketball, and handball. Sort of. But I play some basketball too, and a little baseball. You?"

"Basketball!" Troy said, grinning. "Although I haven't played much this summer, I really need to get some practice in." He paused. "Pyramid? I've never heard of it. Is it a local thing for you?"

"That's sports from another planet for you, yeah," replied Anders. This socializing idea was turning out to be kind of a good thing after all; not much time to mope, and hey, new athletic-type friend, possibly. "If you want to give it a shot sometime, I've got a court set up out in the Preserve where the cabins are. And I'm no NBA star or anything, but if you need somebody to play defense for you or something, I guess I'm up for that."

"That would be cool! You'll have to show me how to play." Troy grinned. "Hey, want to go for a run sometime? I like to go in the mornings, and my roommate's gone a couple of times, but he's not as used to it as I am. It would be great to go with someone who can keep up."

"That sounds like a good idea, actually." Anders chewed on his lip, looking slightly guilty. "I've been slacking off about that for a while."

Well, when you had a choice between regular morning snuggles and getting up at an ungodly hour to run, what would you do? Seriously.

... Troy would probably go for the run, actually, after convincing the giver of snuggles to come along with him. But he's weird like that.

"We totally should, then. Hey, what are you doing tomorrow morning?"

Or maybe Anders was the weird one. Come on, he's supposed to be a jock.

"Not a damn thing as far as I can tell," he replied with an expansive shrug. "I've got no plans at all."

"Great! Tomorrow, then. I'm in room 402. Come by, say... 8AM? It's Sunday, no need to get up too early."

Anders gave him a half-hearted thumbs-up. "Cool. I'm in 5 . . . sorry, 227." He shook his head, chagrined. "I'll be there. No guarantees on the bright part of bright and early, but I'll be there. Could definitely use the activity."

"Great!" Troy noticed that perhaps something else was bothering his new friend, but, well, new friend. Not his place. Yet, anyway. "So, I'll see you then."

Anders wouldn't have minded telling him, but he wasn't enough of a horrible Cylon monster to open up a can of emo on somebody he'd just met, luckily for all concerned. "Definitely, man. 8 tomorrow."
