Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

"Different galaxy, probably. I got here at the beginning of the summer, but I'll be staying on for fall," she said. "I guess I'm not a newbie anymore."

"Congratulations," Lee said, smiling. "Like it?"

"I do," she said. "The weirdness keeps things interesting and some of the people here are just great. And the classes are a big help."

"Big help in what?" Lee asked, curious if what John said was true.

"They're very specific to certain fields," she explained. "I'm here as a sort of training, so I can go to class and learn how to protect myself or blow things up or fight things."

"Guy I talked to earlier said something similar," Lee told her. "So, there's none of those boring subjects?"

"Depends on what you think is boring, I think," she shrugged.

"Right." He decided to hold judgment on that until actually going to a class. "What sort of training are you here for?"

Well, that had actually sort of changed since she first got here. "I'm a Jedi," she said. "Sort of a fighter and peacemaker where I come from. And I'm a pilot."

"Pilot?" He'd ask about the other things later. "What do you fly?"

"I can manage with just about anything you put in front of me, but mostly X-wings. They're starfighters."

"So, ship in space?" Lee asked, curious. "I fly Vipers."

"Mm hm," she nodded. "Haven't heard of Vipers yet."

"Yet?" Lee raised an eyebrow. "Expecting to?"

"Well, I was expecting you to tell me about them," she said.

"Oh." He shook his head, covering that momentary paranoia up. "What'd you wanna know?"

"What kind of capabilities does it have?" she asked.

"It can rotate 180 degrees in .35 seconds, turbothrust engines, carries kinetic energy weapons in the wings and vertical stabilizer, and is made for one pilot."

Not that Lee studied Vipers that closely or anything.

"Not bad," Jaina said approvingly. "You didn't happen to bring one with you, did you?"

"I wouldn't be at this picnic if I had," Lee said, shrugging. "They wouldn't let me. You got an X-Wing?"

She shook her head. "Not here. Military issue and I don't have the clout yet to bring it here."

"Yeah, same here," he said. "Is there anything to fly here?"

"There's a transport pod," she said. "No weaponry, short range passenger ship, not much to see. I think mostly it's just the simulator."

"Boring," Lee groused. "Seriously, that's it? This school gets attacked and has nothing to fly?"

"Most of the attacks happen on the ground. A lot of hand-to-hand and weaponry," she said.
