Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Amazingly enough, this part of the lawn looked pretty clear. For the moment, at least.

Anathema smiled at the girl who came up to her. "I understand that worry. I'm a vegetarian and most of the time, people don't plan for those who have a different dietary need. Anathema Device." She offered a hand.

"Cher Horowitz, hi," she said, shaking it. "That's so cool. I've thought about doing that, but I think I would never get my dad to eat anything because he wouldn't trust my judgment in food." Yes, there was a eyeroll there. "So you're new too?"

"My parents are both vegetarian, so there are never any questions about food quality. And yes, I just arrived from Liverpool. It's in England." Anathema added helpfully, figuring that most American's wouldn't know English geography.

"That's so cool," Cher said, smiling. "You are going to get so many dates, being all foreign and stuff." Completely serious.

"Actually, that depends on your point of view. Because to me, you are foreign." Anathema pointed out. "And why would me being from a different country make a difference to the amount of dates I'll get?"

"It's totally a mystery thing," Cher told her. "It's something new, and interesting, and an awesome conversation topic. Another country is like the unknown, and the unknown is just like a magnet."

"But you could just read about a different place, or visit." Anathema pointed out. "And then it isn't an unknown."

"But it's not the same thing. And it involves reading. That's enough of a deterrant for most people."

Anathema frowned. "I never understood that. You can get so much information from books."

"Oh, I know," Cher said. "The self-help section at the book store is so much more useful than Oprah. And it's less strain on your eyes!"

"Have you considered going to an optometrist?" Anathema asked. "That usually helps with the eye strain."

"As recommended," Cher replied with a nod. "I have perfect vision, but it's important to keep going. Otherwise you start squinting at everything and you get that thing..." She made the squinty face. "It's not attractive."

"And headaches." Anathema added. "Where are you from?" She asked, suddenly realizing she had no idea.

"Oh, yeah, and those," she said, and just in case someone from Liverpool wouldn't know, added, "I'm from Beverly Hills. That's in California, on the way other side of the country."

"So you've also had a ways to travel here." Anathema summarized. "Did you live there your entire life?"

"Yep. Except for vacations and stuff," Cher nodded. "Have you ever been to America before?"

Anathema shook her head. "London is as far as I have traveled. My family keeps meaning to go further, but things keep coming up."

"Oh, perfect! So you can learn everything here! I promise it's not scary."

"School isn't scary." Anathema said.

"School is actually a good thing if you look at it the right way," Cher said. She chose to look at it as social time. "Except my old PE teacher. She was scary. God, I hope the teachers are cool."

Anathema nodded, agreeing for a different reason. "There's a rule about physical education teachers being insane."

"Seriously? That makes a lot more sense now."

Anathema nodded seriously. "That's the only logical explanation I have for my last four years of 'class'."
