Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Zoe was very impressed with how well the construction people had done in rebuilding the school, and the grounds had been cleared just in time for the picnic to welcome the new students and teachers. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs, one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. Part two is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"I've seen a few episodes of the Z-Cases," Cher replied, but then started thinking a little more deeply into that. "Oh, god, you're not one of those weird like, vampire fanatics are you? I saw that on MTV news and just to get things absolutely clear, I'm not filing my teeth into fangs."

"What? No! I'm not a weirdo." At least that's what he liked to think. "I'm just saying that you should keep an open mind about those type of things while you're here."

"Dungeons and Dragons fans?" she guessed.

"Well, them, and other people. Other people who actually are aliens, vampire and witches." Dick said. He paused for a second. "I'm not crazy."

Cher made a mental note to ask Amber for her shrink's phone number. Or better yet, call Dionne and have her ask Amber for her shrink's phone number. "Uh huh. You know, it's not nice to mess with the new girl," she said sternly. "It's a very confusing time to begin with! You're not going to try to sell me an elevator pass to the nonexistent fifth floor, are you?"

"I'm not..." Dick didn't even feel like arguing the point since he knew it would be no use. "Actually, I was messing with you. I apologize."

"Good," she said, satisfied with that. "So now that that's out of your system, what do I need to know about this place."

"Don't eat the cafeteria food." Dick said immediately. "There's enough people cooking in the dorms for you to avoid it. And for the best gossip you should listen to the radio every night."

Cher's jaw dropped. "They broadcast that stuff?" she asked. "Oh, that makes things so much easier."

"Yeah, it totally saves you time." Dick says. "But it kind of sucks when you're the one they're talking about."

"How do they find out?" she asked.

"Nosey squirrels, mostly." Dick said.

"Squirrels?" she repeated, picturing the little fuzzy woodland creatures with the tails. "Like..."

"The kind that eat nuts, yeah." he said, nodding. "I don't know who trained them to write but they know more about grammar than I do."

"There isn't any animal testing going on here, is there?" she wondered. Oddly, she believes the stuff about the squirrels more than the vampires.

"I don't think so. I mean, they get paid in nuts and rum." Which is more than Dick got paid for doing the actual broadcast. "They seem pretty happy."

"Rum? The squirrels get fed alcohol?"

"They like it!" Dick said as if that was a good excuse.

"The parties here must be out of control, if the animals are getting in on it," she said.

"The shirtless parties are always good." Dick said. He wasn't sure he wanted the squirrels there. That might be crossing a line.

"Shirtless parties. I'm learning all kinds of new things. Is that really what it sounds like?"

"Exactly what it sounds like." Dick said. "They're great."

"Now, just to be totally clear," she said, "is the whole shirtless thing mandatory for everyone?" Because hanging around in a bikini was one thing, but underwear was a completely different story.

"Nah, not really. It's mostly the guys that do it." he said. God, he wished chicks would do it more often.

"So how would one go about getting an invite to one of these things?"
