Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Zoe was very impressed with how well the construction people had done in rebuilding the school, and the grounds had been cleared just in time for the picnic to welcome the new students and teachers. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs, one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. Part two is happening simultaneously here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Naomi came down to the Welcome Picnic later that morning. She picked up her name tag and began looking around for someone called Honor Huston.

Beauty hadn't been expecting to encounter, at the moment of her arrival on the island, an enormous crowd of people at a picnic. It took her a few minutes to work up the courage to even wade in and get her name tag, and the only reason she didn't just turn around and head home was that, well, she didn't know how to get home from here.

Tying Greatheart off to a handwavily convenient tree well out of the way, she found her name tag and stood looking around the crowd, feeling very out of place.

Naomi continued scanning the crowd until she came across the person who had the name tag she was looking for, "Honor Huston?" she said as she came over.

Beauty hadn't been addressed by that name in years, and she was actually just getting used to seeing it in print on her name tag when she heard the girl's voice. Looking around, she saw the speaker, and realized it was in fact the person she'd been searching for.

"Yes, although...nobody calls me that, really. Call me Beauty instead, please. You're Naomi Wildman, the student I'm assigned to?"

"okay Beauty," Naomi nodded, "yeah I'm Naomi Wildman, welcome to Fandom High,"

"Thank you," Beauty said, shifting the bag over her shoulder and casting another furtive glance around. "There are . . . a lot more students here than I expected."

Feeling a little self-conscious about her answer, Beauty shook her head. "No, I've only had tutors. I've always wanted to attend a real school, though. Have you been here very long?"

Naomi nodded, "I've been here since last year," she said, "I never attended a proper school until I came to Fandom, it can sometimes take a while to get used to,"

Knowing she wasn't the only one who'd come to Fandom without any experience in a real school made Beauty feel a little less nervous, and she gave Naomi a smile. "Do you have any advice I should be sure to remember?"

"Keeping an open mind here is always a good thing," Naomi said, "how much have you been told about this place?"

"Not very much," Beauty admitted. "But I like to think that I'm fairly open-minded. I do know that I should expect to meet people from a lot of different places."

She'd already figured that Naomi, judging from her somewhat unusual appearance, was one of those people. Beauty had been trying very hard not to stare at the other girl.

"Yeah there's people from all over here," Naomi said, "humans, aliens, people with special powers ... and they come from various points in time as well. What year is it where you're from?"

Beauty understood part of what Naomi was saying, but she was a little lost on 'aliens'. The thing about coming from different points in time certainly explained a lot about what she'd seen so far, though.

Which explained why Naomi would ask what year it was 'where you're from'. Beauty answered in a handwavy manner as it's not established in canon, adding "I'm getting the idea that's not the case here, though."

[ooc: Consider Beauty's answer to set her from somewhere during the Enlightenment. Silly canon, with the being all vague about these things.]

"It's fairly different," Naomi nodded, "at least in my universe, technology's become more advanced and space travel is a common form of travelling,"
