Flight and Flying [Thursday, August 23, 3rd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

There's a lot of empty space between planets, fortunately. If this is your first time up in space, here's the place to try flying. Way, way far away from anything you can hit.

Andros decided that he would fly in empty space since he figured that it'd be very hard for him to get killed this way.

"Nobody's getting killed," Anakin said, slanting a glance over at Andros, "or even scraping the paint on my shuttle. Relax. It's just like the sim."

Marco didn't feel like crashing, so he chose to go for empty space.

Anakin gave him a quick run-through of the controls, then sat back a little. "Give it a try," he said, leaving his hands close enough to his own steering column that he could intercede if something went wrong.

Marco took off in a straight line, keeping the ship more or less in control. "Just like driving!" He didn't add that when he drove, pedestrians dove out of the way.

"Make sure you remember to look above and below, too," Anakin cautioned. "It's not something you have to keep track of on the roads on Earth."

Marco hadn't even considered looking in those direction. "Right, I knew that."

It wasn't technically Adam's first time in space, but it was for flying something in space.

He figured for the first time doing this, the safe way was the best way. After all the Flying classes, Adam knew he could do this.

Anakin smiled and gave him the breakdown of the equipment, then moved his hands away from his steering column. "She's all yours."

The asteroid belt was a little scary-looking, but out here in the middle of nothing, Sam felt much more comfortable going up to the front to try flying.

Anakin smiled over at him. "Strap in," he said, giving Sam a run-down of the equipment before sitting back in his chair and waving his hand at Sam's steering column. "She's all yours."
