Spying Week 7, Period 1

"Morning everyone," Aly said, looking tired but mainly pissed off by the earlier announcements.  She glanced around the class.  "Here's the thing.  Don't bait her.  Don't taunt her.  Don't draw her attention down to yourself.  If she calls you into her office, don't go.  I'll take responsibility.  Any question?"

After any questions were answered, she continued.  "Okay, we've spent six weeks talking about spying and skills a spy has.  Today I want to talk about what a spy does.  When's spying the right thing to do?  When is it too dangerous?  When is it - or is it ever unethical?  And do any of these answers change depending upon who you're reporting to?"

She smiled.  "I meant what I said at the beginning of class.  If there are any problems let me know.  Other than that, you guys were a pleasure.  Thank you for being in my class and I hope to see you all again future classes or in my office hours."

"That's ... what kinda stopped me. She laughed about it and I realized ... just pestering her was only gonna make her worse, you know?" Rikku nodded seriously. "I ... there are probably plans and all that, I just wanted to offer to help. I kinda had to save the world once. And it sucked. We were gonna start a club for it."

"You're very smart," Aly said. "And I'm being completely serious here." She crooked a smile. "If you ever want an advisor for that, I'd be happy to help if you don't mind me only being the daughter of someone who saved the world."

Rikku shook her head quickly. "No, I just ... know the type. She reminded me of some people I really didn't want to think about, you know?"

"The club is ... it's kinda stupid, I guess. It was only half about saving the world anyway, it was more ... how everybody thinks that when you do it's gonna be partying and having a good time, but if you're the one who really saved the world, then you're not at the party. 'Cause ... 'cause you're the one who's got to bury your friends." She made a face. "I'm really cheerful today, huh? Sorry."

Aly reached out to put her hand on Rikku's shoulder, just barely keeping herself from giving the girl a hug. "I'm having a day like that too. It happens. I won't hold it against you if you don't against me."

Rikku smiled back. "Totally won't. That's part of the club motto, I think. We don't really do much other than have ice cream and pajama parties whenever things suck especially bad. Which is really kinda a fun club, if you think about it." She bit her lip. "Is, uh, is everything okay?"
