Spies and Spying: Week 6. Period 1

Aly stood in front of the class looking thoughtful as they came in.

"Over the past five classes, we've talked a lot about different ways to get information," she said. "But we've never talked about what to do once you have the information. In general, that's not the spy's job. The spy simply retrieves the information and passes it up the chain of command. It's the spymaster or the officer or the politician's job. But things are rarely that easy, and none of you are actually spies." She grinned. "That I know of."

"So how do you know when to act? How do you know when to act wisely? When the goal is revolution, the object should only rarely be to just taunt the person in power or draw his attention to you. You need a plan. You need a clear objective, and you need to make sure you have as much information as possible before you act."

She raised an eyebrow. "So take...oh, whatever possibility you wish to discuss and form a plan of action. Decide what information you need, and how - using the techniques we've talked about - you'd go about getting it."

Oh, that was mean. Because now he was staring very openly and getting mental images that wouldn't go away.

But he had to fight back.

I just won't wear pants at all.

Which was a very pretty thought, and Inara was not unaffected.

Isn't that illegal?

He smirked a little.

I'd wear my shorts. To workshops, to school events, around allll those people.

There would be a stampede. But they'd be long enough to be pants once your legs shrank some more, so you'd be decently covered.

He made a face at her.

I'm going to brush my hair tonight.

In a moment of pure maturity, she stuck her tongue out at him.

I thought I'd take a bubble bath.

He snickered and tried to cover it up with an exaggerated frown.

And then he read the note.

And then he dropped his pen.

And almost hit his head while trying to retrieve said pen.

I'm going to...exercise. Without a shirt.

He didn't think that topped a bubble bath though.

Inara smirked and relaxed back in her chair. It was a pretty picture, but she was definitely winning now.

Oh? What kind of exercise? Is shirtlessness obligatory? Because I was thinking of exercising with you...

She was officially evil, he decided.

The sweaty exercises. He was blanking on types of exercises! I think you should exercise with me too.

Like he'd say no to that.

She snickered.

I think we've got that covered already. Don't you?

His turn to blush. And really, what's a teenage boy to ask--write--but :

Again, maybe?

Inara shot him a Look.

He frowned.

Or we could go jogging!

Honestly, she liked his first idea better, but now she seemed to be a little bit stuck.

Why?

He tapped his pen against his cheek some more.

Why jogging? Because you said you wanted to exercise with me and that's a sweaty exercise.

Another frown. Isn't it a bit dull?

It was. Very dull.

You choose, then. And followed by a smiley face.

She thought about that for a few minutes, doodling vines around the edges of her paper.

Do you swim?

He nodded.

I know how to swim. It's been awhile since I've actually gone swimming.

This had nothing to do with getting him into a swimsuit. Really.

Maybe we could do that instead?

And he wasn't having similar thoughts. Really.

Okay! Time and place?

Saturday afternoon?

Rather belatedly, Inara realized she didn't have a swimsuit.

My schedule is free. No other dates.

He hurriedly wrote a Just kidding!

Just for that, he got another Look.

Since you asked, my schedule happens to be free, as well.

You've got that look perfected. Just like that other language you like to use to call me names.

He grinned. The beach, then?
