Aly stood in front of the class looking thoughtful as they came in.

"Over the past five classes, we've talked a lot about different ways to get information," she said. "But we've never talked about what to do once you have the information. In general, that's not the spy's job. The spy simply retrieves the information and passes it up the chain of command. It's the spymaster or the officer or the politician's job. But things are rarely that easy, and none of you are actually spies." She grinned. "That I know of."

"So how do you know when to act? How do you know when to act wisely? When the goal is revolution, the object should only rarely be to just taunt the person in power or draw his attention to you. You need a plan. You need a clear objective, and you need to make sure you have as much information as possible before you act."

She raised an eyebrow. "So take...oh, whatever possibility you wish to discuss and form a plan of action. Decide what information you need, and how - using the techniques we've talked about - you'd go about getting it."

...are you really taking a bubble bath tonight?

She grinned. Yes, it is. And no, I'm not. Jaina and I don't have a bathtub in our room.

He frowned very dramatically.

Maybe I'll dream about that instead. The bubble bath...minus Jaina.

So an empty tub full of bubbles?

If it's full of bubbles it's not entirely empty!

True. And probably just waiting for you to climb into it.

He raised an eyebrow.

I've never taken a bubble bath before.

Seriously? How did that happen?

Seriously. He nodded. No baths, either. Showers.

There was an eyeroll as soon as Inara read the latest note. Give a male an inch and he either wandered off or tried for a mile.

I still don't have a tub.

He frowned.

Why the eyeroll?

This was not something she wanted to explain in a note, at all. But, she didn't want to ignore him.

Bathing's usually a solitary activity.

It took him a minute to write something back.

It's--right. Sorry. Bad question, didn't come out right on paper.

Okay. And I may be a little sensitive. Possibly.

He shook his head.

No, you're not. I don't know how to do things right. I'll stop.

She glanced up and shook her head.

Don't do that, please. I overreacted. I...didn't want you to think badly of me. Because of the other night.

The frowning was back.

I don't think I could ever think badly of you. Ever. Why would I?

Wow, was this a conversation not to have through notes in class.

Some people think that doing things like what we did reflects badly on the woman who did it.

He knew he had to get these words right.

Some people are not me. What we did was...everything else aside, no one's ever seen that side of me. And that's not an inexperience thing. I don't know what it is but it is. I wouldn't...do things like that with just anyone. It wasn't anything great, I know, but it was special to me. That sounds so dumb.

I'm not some people. I wanted to. I want to.

You didn't think it was great?

Yes, because that was the important part. Inara knew that if she concentrated on the rest, she'd be crying in class.
