Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

For a change the class had assembled at the main campfire. This probably had nothing to do with wanting to flout Umbridge's decrees.

Really.

"Now, in your futile quest for redemption, another of the difficulties you will encounter is backsliding. Kill an enemy you could have let surrender here, let another drown while begging for help there, torch a village of innocents, that kind of thing. In any case, during today's scenario, the heroes are going to have started to backslide, badly, and it's the sidekicks' job to make them see the light. Heroes, make them work for it. Sidekicks, if it gets too bad, remember a rake to the back of the head is everyone's friend."

Dawn was sprawled on the grass, taking notes and making a list of everyone she knew who had backslid.

It was a long list.

First thing she had to do was figure out what she was backsliding into. Hmmm. Whiny shoplifter might work.

She sat on the grass and pouted, sighing woefully at dramatic intervals.

Jeff was staring at his own feet, picking up only stray words. He was too busy being torn between being depressed and swearing vengeance on closets.

As per usual, Jeff was utterly confused, but he was very sulky about it. He stared down at the grass and only kept an eye out occasionally for that bloke from last class

Henry walked over to Jeff. Jeff's sulky mood made Henry feel a bit awkward. "Eh, hello."

Jeff's head went up. "Oh, hello," he said, "You're the bloke from last class, right?"

Andrew walked up to Ares. He had a ridiculously large grin on his face and he was carrying a very fuzzy bunny.

"Um, I thought you should know that my hero won't be able to participate in class this week because of being a bunny."

"I see," he said, looking at the bunny. "Similar things used to happen to my minions."

And at least one of those times, he hadn't caused it.

Andrew had bunny John with him. He spent most of the class feeding him little bits of clover and sweet grass.
