Construction: Wednesday August 8th, all day

There's a roof, yes. What there isn't -- or at least what's chugging along in the basement trying to start, and hasn't reached most of the areas still under construction -- is air conditioning.

Yeah.

"Your mission, should you choose to accept it, and I think you will, is to go through all the floors and get the AC ducts open," Xander tells the graduate workers. "The sooner it's done, the sooner you don't have to actually swim through the halls. At least until the next flood."

"Salad?" Bel said, making a face.

Anders rolled his eyes in amusement. "Kidding. That one's mine. You get the giant frakking roast beef sandwich, 'cause I'm not crazy enough to deny you your meat."

"I'm a carnivore, I can't help it," Bel said. "I need my meat."

Anders made a tsk-ing sound. "You're so high-maintenance."

"No, I'm not," Bel insisted. "I'm a growing demon. I have nutritional requirements."

"Riiiiiiiight." Anders sat down beside him, slumping against him a little bit. "So Harris says we can't wall the principal up inside the building somewhere," he added, somewhat sulkily.

"What he doesn't know. . . ." Bel glanced at the school, sizing up a good place to stuff the body.

"If we knew where the sex ed classroom was going to be . . ." muttered Anders darkly. Some small part of his brain was a little shocked that he was talking about this so casually, but the rest was too ragey to be scandalized.

"We could christen it?" Bel smirked.

Well, that hadn't been quite where his train of thought had been heading, but . . .

". . . we could do that, too."

"Xander's got the blueprints around here somewhere," Bel said.

"Oh, you think?" asked Anders. "Might be more permanent ways to, uh, leave our mark on the school, but I like this idea way too much."

"It does has its appeal," Bel said, lazily taking a bite out of his not-at-all-phallic-shaped sandwich.

"Maybe when it's a little less drafty," Anders said thoughtfully, eyeing the school-in-progress. But it's gonna have to be soon, 'cause there's only a couple more weeks left before . . ."

Still not saying it. Still not saying it.

"Lots of time," Bel said, trying to sound casual.

"Yeah." Anders's laugh, as he leaned a little closer against Bel, was slightly hollow. "Tons of time. No reason to worry yet."

Bel stretched out an arm to put around Anders's shoulders. And then stole a piece of chicken out of his salad.

"Hey," was Anders's half-hearted token exclamation of protest. "I thought you didn't want the salad."

He turned with the intention of glaring lightly at Bel, but ended up nuzzling him instead.

"I didn't eat the salad," Bel pointed out, grinning. "I took the chicken."

"You know what?" Anders poked Bel in the ribs. "You have way more roast beef than I have chicken, so be happy with what you've got and leave me mine."

This, said while offering him another chunk of chicken.

Bel snapped up the piece of chicken, then held out his sandwich. "Want a taste of my meat?" he said.

Anders snickered, because he was twelve. "When do I ever say no to that?" he asked around a mouthful of sandwich.

"That's what I like about you," Bel said, fingers playing with the hair on the back of Anders's neck.

Anders closed his eyes for a moment and grinned, arching into the touch like a shameless cat. (And, well, he was frequently shameless. And perhaps in need of a haircut.)

"Better not be the only thing."
