Library [07/20]

Thursday was a little busy this morning.1 Her attention was divided between the courier company on the telephone and the footnoterphone call she was ignoring. "No, I know you probably can't see the island. The delivery address is correct.2 Yes, I understand that you can't simply leave the books out there in the middle of nowhere. There will definitely be someone there to pick them up.3 I'm absolutely sure.4 Positive. One hundred percent.5 Well, it's for a high school library, so- ah, yes, now you understand why I'm so sure. We'll see your delivery man then. Thank you." She hung up the phone, then turned her attention to footnoterphone call. It may have looked like she was talking to nothing.

"I was on the telephone, Vernham," Thursday said to Vernham Deane, the dashing lead character in Daphne Farquitt's (Angelica Demenses' counterpart in Thursday's timeline) books. "What's the problem? It had better not have anything to do with Barry Plodder.6 How can it possibly be about Barry Plodder? He hasn't even been released yet in 1990!7 I try not to. It gives me a headache. This is ridiculous.8 Can it wait? What about Plodder?9 Don't tell me what happens! I'll let slip before someone gets a chance to read it and offend someone's honour and the next thing I know, there'll be a duel with wands or swords of some sort. Possibly both. Where's the Cat?10" Thursday could feel a headache coming on. "Do you need me to come and sort it out?11 I will. Call me back if anything else happens.12"

Thursday was very much beginning to dislike Barry Plodder and his Wizarding School adventures. Also, she was in dire need of coffee.

1: Is this connection working?
2: I know you're there, Thursday. This is the place to contact you and I'm absolutely certain this is working.
3: Are you sure you can't hear me?
4: You're not ignoring me, are you?
5: Well, I suppose I can wait.
6: I hate to disappoint, but it's about Barry Plodder.
7: Time is a little different here, if you'll remember.
8: So is Farquitt's next novel. I've been meaning to talk to you about that.
9: Well there's some trouble with the Well of Lost Plots. A mob of the Barrys from the unpublished Barry Plodder fan fiction stored in the Well decided it would be a good time to try to seize control of the seventh novel around the time where the best friend, Don, tries to...
10: He's off with the others handling the matter. He left me behind to let you know. No need to worry, just keeping you informed, but if you don't hear from us in a while, you might want to check in. The last I heard, the fan fiction versions of Lord Vizzle's followers, the Fatal Chewers, were talking about taking on the rest of the fantasy genre, but the other boarding school novels are banding together to help out. They say it gives them a bad name.
11: No need, everything's under control, but it's procedure to let you know. I'd best go. Give my best to Friday.
12: Of course, dear lady. Have a pleasant day.
