The Danger Shop again, and again, it looked like a classroom. "Welcome to the second class. No lecture today, just go on through there." Harriet gestured to the door at one end of the room. "You'll find a room with two doors. Once you're in there, pair up and one member of each pair go through a different door." She sipped her tea and smiled benignly. "Go on, off with you. I'll see you when you're done."

Once through the first door, the students would find themselves in a large empty room. White walls, white floors, white ceilings, no furniture, and two doors - one red, one blue. There were also a number of people milling about who watched the students curiously as they entered, paired up, and went through the doors.

After everyone had finished the exercise, they were passed back into the classroom. "Now, wasn't that interesting? That was a little game called the Prisoner's Dilemma, and it's all about making choices - you can cooperate with the other person by remaining silent, or you can defect, by giving evidence against them. Some people argue that the only rational decision is to look out for yourself by talking, however if both people do that, both lose. If each decides to protect the other, both win, which I think everyone would agree would be the best outcome, and if one speaks and the other is silent, the speaker wins and the silent one loses," she looked around the class, "as you just discovered for yourself. You can never be absolutely certain what the other person will choose -- if you choose to be silent, you have to trust they will do the same, and that's not always as easy to do as it is to say."

Harriet came around the front of the desk and handed out some information. "Which you can read or not as you like. Now, what do you all think? Why did you make the choice you did? Would you make the same one again? Would your choice differ depending on your guilt or innocence? What if you'd had a friend, a family member, a loved one, or an enemy as your co-accused? I'd like you to spend the rest of the class in discussion, please." She smiled and once more sat down. "If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

[ooc: ETA: It is up to you whether your character is innocent or guilty of what they are charged with, within the context of the exercise. It's long this week. First thing - please, please do not pair up if you're not going to go through the other two threads - they will be short, probably not demand much interaction beyond a handful of pings - but both members of the pair have to complete the run for either to finish. If you want to go through, and you don't get a partner, don't worry, those NPCs will be happy to pair up with you, but I'd much rather see student pairs! Makes it more fun and saves my brain.

Second thing - going through the doors. The first person in the pair goes through the red, the second through the blue. eg: Jaina pings in to the pair up thread, Alec pings to her. Jaina goes through the red, Alec through the blue. This makes it much easier for me to keep track of the pair's choices. Pick a door! Any door! As long as you each go through a different one!

Third thing - Instructions! Pair up in the first thread - feel free to have a bit of a talk, but you can go ahead and ping them in to the red door or blue door thread once you have a pair. In the 'door' thread, I'll ping you with a link to the next once we're done. Don't ping into it in advance, please, or it won't work!]

And walked into a jail cell, with a traditional English bobby shutting the door behind her with a clang.

"Such a shame when a nice young lady goes bad," he said, shaking his head. "Robbing a bank? What could you have been thinking of."

"I guess I wasn't, considering I didn't do it," Jaina said, going with it.

She was almost tempted to pull the Do you know who I am? bit just to say she'd done it once, but she wasn't going to mess up a class activity for that.

Anemone practically skipped through the red door, singing some nonsense song to herself.

And was greeted with a chuckle as the bobby shut the cell door behind her. "I must say, most people aren't so cheery about being arrested."

"Arrested?" Anemone tipped her head to the side and studied the man in the uniform. Obviously military or police...and Anemone had a lifetime of experience with the military. When in doubt, be herself. The cute self, not the crazy self.

She tugged one strand of hair and looked at him absently. "Why am I being arrested?"

A door clanged behind her, shutting her into the jail cell. "Why do you young ladies carry on so? I don't know, falling into bad company, dragged into committing crimes, robbing banks." The English bobby tsked. "Such a shame."

Will frowned slightly as she heard what crime the bobby charged her with. At least it was an exciting one; not just anybody could pull off a bank robbery.

She stared back at the police officer and kept her mouth shut.

Raph headed for the red door, cautious as he headed into the blackness. He didn't like heading in blind, but with no other choice he just stayed alert and ready for anything.

Hopefully he wouldn't be too surprised at suddenly finding himself in a jail cell.

It was more than could be said for the English bobby who was swinging the door shut behind him. Turtle. Giant turtle. Luckily British stoicism came into play. "Have to wonder what you were thinking, young...man. Robbing a bank, you were probably going to be noticed."

Raph whirled on the closing door. "What the-? Robbing a bank!?" he barked. "I wouldn-- I! Ooohh~!" He made an exasperated noise and gritted his teeth (yes, teeth, despite having a beak? Soft beak? Whatever). "I stop robberies, I don't start 'em!"

It was a classroom exercise, yes, but being accused of things he hadn't done really got under his shell.

Naminé was a little reluctant to leave the comfortable all-white room, especially for the unknown that was behind the blue door. She took a quick breath and steeled herself before stepping through, remembering this was all a simulation and that she was safe.

Not unkindly, the English bobby said, "Watch yourself, young lady," as he shut the cell door behind her. "I can't believe a nice lass like you would get mixed up in something as bad a robbing a bank."

And found himself in a jail cell, a bobby shutting the door firmly behind him. "And what's a nice young lad like yourself doing mixed up in bank robbery."

And the door to the jail cell clanged shut behind him. "Young people today, robbing banks, I don't know what the world is coming to," muttered the English bobby.

"Indeed," Qui-Gon said non-commitally, turning to face the man dressed in the strange blue uniform -- some kind of law official, he guessed.
