Accelerated Scouting: Period Five, Week Two

Dale is dressed in full scouting regalia and in a very chipper mood as he sits at the main campfire sipping his coffee.

Apparently tussling with Dinos agrees with him

Sick bastard.

"Good Afternoon campers! I hope you remembered to wear comfortable shoes because we're going on a hike today. And not just any hike..."

Dale gestured to a stack of backpacks and camping equipment.

"We're going fully loaded. Why? Well you never know what you might need on a hike. So pack up your back with items you believe you might need and then lets get a move on. And for next week's class I'll need you to bring a swimsuit and report to the school pool."

Then Dale pointed to a collection of canteens. "It's going to be a hot one today, so make sure to stay hydrated."

But before we begin our hike, I'm proud to announce that all of you have achieved the rank of Tenderfoot. From what I've heard on the radio you've all been pretty busy, and I'm happy to pass out the following merit badges to all of you.

Abigail looked through the supplies, and tried to pack as lightly as possible. She ended up with, among other things, a first aid kit, a blanket, water and granola bars, a compass, and a Swiss army knife (just in case).

Abigail watched the squirrel for a few moments before taking a step closer. "Need some help?" she said, wondering if the squirrel spoke English. Around here, anything was possible.

Abigail was so not in the habit of playing around with furry woodland creatures, but anything that could pull off a look like the one she was getting was worth changing her position a little.

"All right, hold on," she said, fishing around in her pack for the Swiss Army knife. After pulling out the knife, the screwdriver, the nail file, and some accessory that she honestly didn't recognize, she finally managed to pull the can opener out. Taking the can from the squirrel, she popped the top open and held it back out. "This should do the trick."
