[Creatures of Nature - 5th Period, 7/16]

D met with the students in a classroom this time, directing them to tables around the room. At the head of the class, he had a great many cages, each with an animal of some type inside, all of them different.

"Good afternoon, class, and welcome to the second session of Creatures of Nature," he began. "Today's lesson will be an ongoing one, and though the workshop is meant to focus on the animals in nature - meaning those that are not domesticated and that you may not generally come into contact with - I would like to have you each take care of something in order to impress upon you how animals are to be respected and cared for in a more intimate way."

He paused, looking thoughtful. "...Hopefully not too intimate."

Clearing his throat, D began to pass out slips of paper to each student. "You are now assigned these animals until the end of this workshop. You will take them back to your room, care for them, and at the end, you will bring them back to me and we will see how you have done with them. Have fun! And if there are problems, I urge you to come to me."

[OOC: I'm braindead for class-writing, so [livejournal.com profile] turtle_toughguy suggested this. Yes, your character gets a pet even if you have one already. You can try to argue though, if you feel you have to.

You may assume that your pet comes with the basics - food and water (that your character will have to replenish), shelter, and a cage/enclosure of modest size. Wait for OCD is done! omg i am going to bed for a couple hours now, bye. Mod your pets, if'n you please.]

Sabriel studied her assigned animal for a while, and then spoke to it. "I don't think you're really a pet." She wasn't sure what it was yet, though.

Karal smiled at the creature - the chinchilla, he corrected himself - and held his hand near the cage so it could get his scent.

It sniffed at his hand and sneezed, then nibbled it through the bars.

"Hello," he said. "You are very cute."

:It looks like a deformed rabbit.:
Altra peered down into the cage, eyes gleaming and tail twitching.

"Altra! You will scare it." Far from looking scared, the chinchilla muscled up to the bars, twitching its nose and flicking its tail in what could be interpreted as a threatening - or at the very least rude - manner.

Karal covered a laugh and opened the door to scritch it behind the ears and it rubbed against his hand.

:Hmmph.:

Troy was a little surprised as the fact that he was just being handed a pet, and wondered how A.J. would feel about having the bird in the room. "Hey, there," he said, leaning over and coming closer to the cage. The budgie chirruped, and then fluttered around a bit in the cage, a bit aimlessly. "I think I'll call you Ryan."
