Dealing with the Opposite Sex, Friday, Period 2, Class #1

As students entered the wooded area, they would notice the woman in black leather perched on the picnic table, which was surrounded by chairs. Anyone familiar with Aeryn Sun might be surprised by the similarity of their appearances, except for the white streaks in Vala's hair and the more relaxed and lounging demeanor.

"Good morning," she said, sipping from a large mug of what was probably coffee, "My name is Vala Mal Doran, and I'll be your instructor in matters of learning how to deal with the opposite sex. Now, anyone who thinks I can teach you everything on this subject in seven weeks has clearly been imbibing intoxicants and not sharing, but hopefully you'll have enough of a basis by the time we're finished so you won't blush, stammer, and pass out every time you speak to someone of the opposite gender."

"My lovely assistant," she gestured in Jack's general direction, "is Jack Harkness. His knowledge in this area is very reliable, and you should feel free to ask him any questions that you would--or wouldn't--ask me."

"So, as a unique getting-to-know you opportunity, I'd like you to introduce yourselves, explain what you hope to get out of the class, and tell use your most embarrassing story about interacting with a member of the opposite sex."

"Who'd like to start?"

Jack wasn't quite his usual flirty self today, but he was smirking faintly as he watched Vala, and would be more than happy to answer questions.

Pretty much any question. He really has no shame.

Hey, it was simple really. Cute Guy equaled bouncy and happy Savannah.

Jack was distracted, so it took him awhile to notice, but when he did, he waved back and smirked at her.

She really knew nothing of tact or subtlety.

He raised an eyebrow in an 'enjoying the class?' manner.

Jack grinned at her. Jo was a welcome distraction from...stuff he wasn't thinking about. "I'm not sure I have any."

Katara stared and then grinned when she first saw Jack. She waited patiently until after class and then wandered over to him. "You came back?"

"Katara, hey." He smiled warmly at her. "And I did, just for a month or two, though. Nothing permanent."

She bounced slightly and looked like she wanted to hug him. "I'm so glad! You're okay, right?"

It made him laugh. "I am okay, I'm glad, too," mostly and mostly, "and come here." He held out his arms. "I haven't had a hug from you yet."

"Hi." If Jack was even slightly bemused at being addressed by what appeared to be a small, living frog puppet, he didn't let it show. "Depends on on why you're asking her, where you want to go, and what you want at the end of it."

"Uhm, say I just really like her, and she's pretty, and like, maybe a movie or something? I'm not sure what you mean by what I want at the end of it."

"Well, what's your reason for asking her out? Is it just because you want to spend time with her, or are you aiming for sex at the end of it?" Jack frowned and studied Robin thoughtfully. "Can you have sex?"

Isabel took a seat towards the back of the crowd and kept her head down until it was her turn to speak. Once she was done, she risked a quick look at Jack, then put her head back down, wishing she knew what she could do to fix things.

Jack caught the look and his jaw tightened. He almost said something, almost, then shook his head and turned away to watch Vala.

There was no point.
