As students entered the wooded area, they would notice the woman in black leather perched on the picnic table, which was surrounded by chairs. Anyone familiar with Aeryn Sun might be surprised by the similarity of their appearances, except for the white streaks in Vala's hair and the more relaxed and lounging demeanor.

"Good morning," she said, sipping from a large mug of what was probably coffee, "My name is Vala Mal Doran, and I'll be your instructor in matters of learning how to deal with the opposite sex. Now, anyone who thinks I can teach you everything on this subject in seven weeks has clearly been imbibing intoxicants and not sharing, but hopefully you'll have enough of a basis by the time we're finished so you won't blush, stammer, and pass out every time you speak to someone of the opposite gender."

"My lovely assistant," she gestured in Jack's general direction, "is Jack Harkness. His knowledge in this area is very reliable, and you should feel free to ask him any questions that you would--or wouldn't--ask me."

"So, as a unique getting-to-know you opportunity, I'd like you to introduce yourselves, explain what you hope to get out of the class, and tell use your most embarrassing story about interacting with a member of the opposite sex."

"Who'd like to start?"

Katara stared and then grinned when she first saw Jack. She waited patiently until after class and then wandered over to him. "You came back?"

"Katara, hey." He smiled warmly at her. "And I did, just for a month or two, though. Nothing permanent."

She bounced slightly and looked like she wanted to hug him. "I'm so glad! You're okay, right?"

It made him laugh. "I am okay, I'm glad, too," mostly and mostly, "and come here." He held out his arms. "I haven't had a hug from you yet."

Katara grinned and hugged him tightly. "And you didn't get hurt, right? Cause you promised you wouldn't. And are you really TAing this class?"

Jack hugged her just as tightly, grateful for something that was simple. "I'm not hurt now," he told her, hoping it might slip past her attention that he hadn't actually answered the question. "And I really am. Can you think of anyone better?"

"No, I guess not," Katara said thoughtfully. "Long as you want to." She grinned up at him again. "It'll be fun!" ...as long as Zuko wasn't a jackass. She paused. "You're not hurt now? Were you? Did you come back to recover?"

He should have known better. Easing back a bit, he presented his hand. "Something like that. I hurt my hand, but Cedric," he paused, "Cedric fixed it up. So now I can just spend my time lazing around and enjoying myself."

She inspected his hand carefully, even pulling a bit of water out of her waterskin to make sure it really was okay. "Good for Cedric. I'm glad he was able too. And you should." Katara looked up at Jack severely. "Rest and enjoy yourself and have fun. I work at the clinic now so I will even give you a prescription."

"A prescription for having fun? I like that. I really like that," he said, grinning. "What about you, you doing okay?"

"I'll write it out tonight and bring it to you next week," Katara said, grinning back. "I've been good," she said, sneaking a glance over to where Zuko was sitting. "I miss Molly though cause she went to LA for the rest of the summer, but everything else has been fun. I love the summer even if it is way too hot."

Jack followed her glance, then turned back, one eybrow raised. "Problem?" he asked, pointing a thumb at Zuko. "I can dump him in ancient Rome, if you want."

"What's ancient Rome?" she asked curiously before shaking her head. "He's okay. I think. He's okay now anyway."

"Fun place, way far back in Earth's past. He'd never find his way home," he explained. "But if you're sure you don't want me to, I won't."
