Speech Comm

She wears a sharp blue suit and speaks veeery softly and slowly...

201--Trust Me

Good morning gang. Ok, we're working with a theme of trust this week. Last week was influence and persuasion, so this week I'd like you to prep a speech in which you persuade me to trust you. What do you feel trust is all about? Why should I, the biggest chicken on the teaching staff, trust you? In what ways will you persuade me? Keep in mind the appeals to your character, utilizing specific evidence, and appealing to my emotions. Start brainstorming, you can feel free to ask me questions. This will be helpful for those of you involved in these elections we've got going on...politics is all about presenting the information and getting people on your side. You'll present this Thursday, keep it short. 3-5 minutes. Ok, go.

301--Trust Games

*All the desks have been pushed to the back of the class in a heap. There will be no sitting today.*

Morning, guys. OK, first. Someone may have had a reaction to the drinks from yesterday. I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that I didn't do anything that would harm you. If you felt anything, it was just a little lidocaine. These are trust games. Keep that in mind.

Now, yesterday I saw some intereting things. Some of you have real trust issues...and I don't just mean those who refused to drink. Sydney and Chiana probably have very good reasons behind their behavior. However, others in this class, I'm amazed at how readily you trusted me...I understand your situation, really. I'm up here, I have the political power in this classroom. You ought to be able to trust me to keep you safe, and, in theory, teach you something. However, what if I am intentionally misleading you? I clearly wrote on the board NOT to drink what was in the cups before you ever got here. Why did my words convince you otherwise? Hmm...

Ok, moving on.

So yesterday we saw your level of trust regarding me. Today we're going to work on your trust with one another.

Personal space varies from culture to culture. Part of this is how a person is taught to value their body, and part has to do with the environment in which a person was raised. However, all cultures, when faced with a stranger, tend to be wary and will only let people get so close to them. So here's our game for the day. I want you to pair up with someone...anyone. I want you to stand, facing each other, 1 meter apart. You will take turns disclosing personal details...not deeply personal please. Your pet's name, your shoe size...I don't really care, I just don't want this to get more uncomfortable than it will.

Ok, with each disclosure take a step forward. IF you get to physical contact, I want you to hold that for as long as possible. When you become uncomfortable, please feel free to take a step back.

If anyone winds up without a partner, you can use me. *Blinks* I mean I'll be your partner.

Ok, go.

"Well, nice to meet you Jack," Anya says boisterous, like she was meeting him at a sports game.

Thinks of something to say.
"I'm running for treasurer. Oh, and I like money!"

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack finds the pep in her voice jus the slightest bit irritating, it reminds him of Danny when he finds some old roll of toilet paper off-planet.

"Yeah, nice to meet you too."

"I'm running for treasurer. Oh, and I like money!" Jack is possibly the only one in the entire school not running for something.

"I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. I..." Jack tries to think of something to say, but everything seems to be classified. "I've broken over sixty bones in my body." Jack takes another small step.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Anya thinks hard for something interesting to say next

"I know how many blood vessels can burst in a man's body before he actually dies!"
"I'm not an ex demon!" she lamely declares and steps forward.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Jack just. Blinks. Okay then. Not an ex demon. So that means... she is a demon now?

"I know how much skin you can peel off a guy before he passes out from blood loss."

"Okay then. I've broken almost every rule in the USAF handbook." Step.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"USAF. Hmmmm....whatever that is," Anya thinks to herself.

She ponders his comment, then decides it's good. A rule breaker. She can respect that in a person.

Now, if only she could think of something equally exciting.

"I once tried to order a beer in a bar but got was denied because I didn't have my i.d. even though I'm 1,120 friggen-years-old," she blurs out and steps towards Jack.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Another not-teen-year-old.

"You should stop by the Love Shack suit, we've got all kinda of alcohol at cheep prices. And we don't even card."

Jack probably shouldn't cross that line and say anything stupid, but then again he's always been fond of tightrope walking.

"Some people call me the space cowboy, some call me the gangster of love."

"I once gave a jar-head a lap-dance because Kawalsky dared me to."

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[OOC: Thank you, thank you very much.]

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Tries to figure out how to one-up Jack's latest confession, but realizes that "I slept with Spike at a magic store and it's all on tape" probably isn't a good introduction for someone running for office.

Thinks of something safe, "I knew Angel before he was all evil."

*Takes a step and noticed she and Jack are getting pretty close to reaching each other. Realizes she doesn't mind.*

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"We have an evil angel here? Does it have wings?"

"I sell candid porn of my friends with their semi-knowledge."

"I once pissed on a statue and was punished with dancing."</> Jack takes a step forward and is face to face with the shorter woman. "Hi." (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/17900.html?thread=688876#t688876)

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Looks up at Jack and reflects on his last statement.

I once tried to sell my children for more money while playing the game of Life.

"I once lost my memory and thought I was married to some stuffy old British guy," she says.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then asks him, "Really, dancing is a punishment to you?"

Boy what I could have done to you back in the day.....

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Well the native's idea of 'dancing' was a bit different from most peoples."

Been there, done that. Baal was meaner.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"More tourture, less dating ritual?" She asks, now very curious.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Torture's a good word for that. Yeah, let's go with torture."

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"You know, I used to love torture. Well, that doesn't sound fun." She replies.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Sounds like something that would happen to one of the Refugees.

I've died over two hundred times. I think.

"I once spent at least three months in a ten hour loop." Jack puts one of his hands on Anya's shoulders.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow, that must have been aweful. I hate loops unless I create them," she replies.

"I hate bunnies," she says shuddering at just the thought of the vile, little carrot eating creatures.

She scoots a little closer to Jack.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Jack's a little uncomfortable, but he's dealt with worse then this. And besides, he's never been one to back down first.

"Yeah it sucked a lot. Did have a few advantages though."

"What about African Swallows?"

"I hate snakes." Jack puts his other hand on her other shoulder.

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I've traveled around the world disfiguring and disemboweling men who wronged their women," she says, as she moves forward and closes the small gap left between them.

ooc: really. i have to go. fandom high is going to eat my math grade if i don't. (more to myself than you, because I REALLY, REALLY like the crack that is fandom high!)

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been further." Jack leans forward a little so that his chest is brushing hers. Oh yeah, this isn't awkward at all.

[OOC: I do the exact same thing. I spend, on average, two-three hours a night trying to get offline.]
