"Practical Applications and How to be Awesome," A.J. Leaf said. "Not that I need that second one, of course." His head tilted slightly. "Mal Doran equals fewer notes?"

"Mal Doran equals drool," John Fred replied. "I hadn't heard about the Awesome class. You'll have to tell me if you learn anything cool."

"Ah-ha," A.J. Leaf chuckled. "I'll have to keep an eye out for the drool, then. And I definitely will. Only fair that both of us are contributing our resources, you know?"

"It's a deal, Leaf." John Fred smiled. "I know I would have appreciated this sort of arrangement last semester."

"Yeah, I hear Frank's class on Annoying Teachers was amazing," John Fred said. "Of course, he's gone now."

"A class on Annoying Teachers?" A.J. Leaf asked, sounding impressed. "Man, I knew Frank was awesome. Sucks that he took off. Alas, poor Frank, I barely knew ye."

"Seriously, the students got to pull pranks on the Vice Principal and everything," John Fred replied, equally impressed. "We will all miss Frank."

Yes, A.J. Leaf thought he was quite clever for replacing Com- with John- in this case.

"That's a good idea, Leaf," John Fred agreed. "Let's bow our heads for our fallen Johnrade." John Fred lowered his head and clasped his hands.

"Poor Frank has fallen to both graduation and marriage," John Fred raised his glass of water. "To our Johnrade," because that is the best new word ever.

"To our Johnrade!" A.J. Leaf lifted his carton of milk and clinked (well, not clinked, but you know...) it against John Fred's glass, and then drank deeply for the toast. He finished with a refreshed little 'ahhh,' and, after wiping the milk moustashe away with his arm, he asked, "Marriage? Really? He only mentioned college to me."

"Yeah, he said it's happening in November or something," John replied. "I can't imagine being ready for marriage two years from now."

"Maybe not two years, no, but, after, like, college and stuff...."

Imagining the white polka-dotted fence, the manicured lawn with a bunch of cool sculptures, the 2.5 kids, someday with big-shot, post-Harvard lawyer Corey giving the whole "honey, I'm home!"...? Mayyyyyybe. That would explain the dopey grin on his face.

"I dunno, Leaf. That's an awfully long time from now."

For John Fred, after college meant being in the Air Force and flying helicopters and he didn't see how marriage would fit into that life for a long while. Though, we do know he was married once and he wasn't good at it.

"Oh, well," A.J. Leaf held the thoughtful expression of one who might have mused about this before, with the wistful grin of a hopeless romantic, "I mean, I'll be done next year, so that's one year. And I might go to art school, I don't know, but not so much for the degree, but the experience, and Corey's so smart, she'll be done...in...three...ye..."

A.J. Leaf blinked; he was suddenly blushing a lot. "Oh, crap..." He totally just said all that out loud, didn't he?

Thank God Corey wasn't here...

A.J. Leaf let out an embarrassed groan, mingled with a laugh, as his hand covered half of his very embarrassed face. "Just this...girl. Back home. She's, like....it's not like....she's my best friend..." And one true love. He let out a wistful sigh. He never did get the chance to tell her...

"Ah, a girl who's just a friend but shouldn't be?" John Fred asked.

"Yeah, well, you know," A.J. bit his lip a bit. "I kinda....meant to tell her that I...y'know...before I came here, but I totally chickened out...Uggghh, she deserves better, anyway. She's so smart, and pretty, and perfect, and stuff..."

"I know," A.J. Leaf's shoulders sunk and he was getting the most out of that very powerful pout of his. "I told myself, 1:37. I was going to tell her I love her by 1:37 exactly. It was an excellent time; everyone said so."

Here, his sigh was truly pitiful.

"My bus left at 1:30. I fail at planning."
