Accelerated Scouting
"Good afternoon campers!" Dale called out cheerfully as he sipped from his giant mug 'o coffee.
"Welcome Accelerated Scouting and our first meeting as Troop 3.14. For those of you not familiar with the Boy Scouts of America, it is a educations for young adults designed to build character, train young people with the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop physical fitness. This is typically a year round programmed designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership.
As you gain skills, perform community service, and participate in various activities in Scouting you can advance in rank eventually reaching the highest rank possible which is the rank of Eagle. Typically this advancement will take anywhere from five to seven years to achieve. What this summer workshop will do is compress the requirements of scouting to an accelerated time frame and get to that goal within seven weeks.
Now we have a lot to do today and not a lot of time to do it with. First! You are now all at the rank of 'Scout'. To progress to the next rank of Tenderfoot we need you to get to work."
Dale gestured over to the side of the campfire ring where shorts, shirts, sashes, socks, and bandannas have been laid out for everyone. "This is your class A uniform. You will wear it to each of our workshops in a proper manner unless we are doing an activity that will require them. Yes, I know they are Dorky. They are however comfortable, durable and stain resistant. Please find an outfit that will fit and change into it.
Where will you change into them, you ask?"
Dale gestured over to a stack of packed tents. "In one of these. Before the end of class you must set up a tent and change into your uniform for inspection. After that you willhandwavily memorize the Scout Oath, Law, motto and Slogan. You will then repeat them all to me and then pick a Scout Law that you feel best describes you and one that you need to work on.
You will then pack your tent and take it with you. Why? Because before the workshop next week you will need to go camping overnight and learn to tie at least three knots."
"Where will you learn how to do most of this?" Dale asked as he gestured to a stack of books, "Why in your handy Scout Handbook. Take one and keep it with you. It will be your scouting bible for the next several weeks."
"And finally before we begin, each week you will be earning various merit badges to help you progress in your ranks. I will plan our activities to help you achieve those merit badges required for rank and be listening to the radio to learn of your activities throughout the week to see if you have made any progress on your path to Eagle."
"Go to it Campers! Next week to be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes or boots"

"As far as the laws go," she decided, "I would say that loyal is probably my best." Though she was very tempted to go with thrifty, loyal sounded cooler. "And I should probably work on that obedient one."

She was in no way bringing up the obedient part since she was wont to run into battle when told not to.

Mun remembered everything but the last two bits of the oath. :)"Hey this is almost exactly like what we have to say." Robin commented. "I think helpful is what best describes me. Uhm, I think maybe thrifty might be what I need to work on."
