After the class had assembled Ares leant back and considered them thoughtfully.

"Now, I assume you have all chosen to take this class because you have some ideas about the concept of redemption, and you either agree with my take on it being a fallacy at best, and deliberate con at worst, or you wish to convince me of the error of my ways. Just so you know, the second's never going to happen."

"Now, rather, so starting from next week we will be playing out various scenarios to show, just how the world conspires to keep the average idiot redemption seeker down, but for now, we'll just start with something small and have you introduce yourself and tell me why you took the class. Also, if you've ever down anything you feel you need to redeem yourself for."

"Oh, and Skywalker? You're the TA."

What you you need redemption for? Do you need redemption for anything?

After Ares' lecture, Lana certainly didn't want to say anything out loud, but she couldn't help feeling that she still wanted to find some redemption for the things she'd done while she was possessed. Regardless of what people said about it not being her fault. But there was no way she'd admit it here!

"I shoplifted some stuff, but I had to return it," Dawn offered, scowling slightly at the memory.

Andrew looked around the class, uncomfortable. He spoke up, voice cracking a bit, "I, um, that is to say, one time I kind of summoned this Drokken Beast, and my aunt's cat, Mr. Nixon, walked into the summoning circle and, um, was eviscerated and eaten. Mostly eaten."

He cleared his throat, "Mr. Nixon was hiding under my bed. I didn't even know he was in the room. He was an old cat, blind in one eye, incontinent, missing patches of fur - basically his time to go was near. But sometimes I feel bad about that. My aunt doesn't have many friends."

"You summoned a--" Dawn's head hit the desk with a thump.

Andrew just gave Dawn a goofy smile and small shrug.

"Why?" Dawn asked the desk.

John totally wasn't thinking of the incident with Turtle's braid when he said, "I don't think I need to be redeemed for anything, but isn't that somehow dependent on point of view?"

"Just because I've made a few people cry by pointing out their incompetency doesn't mean I need to be redeemed," Rodney said this matter-of-factly." I was only telling them the truth. It's not my fault if they couldn't handle it."

"Embalming," said Jeff. He did not elucidate further.

John peered at Jeff with a raised eyebrow. "Embalming? That sounds like a good story."

Jeff peered right back from under his eyelids, his expression serious. "Oh," he said, full serious 'what are you, crazy?' voice on, "There's nothing good about embalming."

"True," John agreed with a nod. "What with it being for dead people and all."

"Don't even joke about that," said Jeff.

"..." John was confused, nothing unusual about that. "Did you embalm someone who wasn't dead?"

"There are just some materials that should never be used to substitute shrink wrap."

"Such as?"

"Well," Jeff said, blinking, "That would be the nothing good bit, wouldn't it?"

"What was I thinking?" John chuckled.

"Breasts," said Jeff. What, it was as good an answer as any.

"..." John was at a loss for words. "I'm sure that makes sense on some level I'm not aware of."
